Well, I have read up a bit more since posting on Rustybug's KC thread and I don't think its KC that Danny has - basically because he's not coughing at all
He is displaying symptoms that are very like a human when they have cold, i.e. watery eyes, a runny nose and a muscus rattle sometimes in his throat (not coughing, but like he's trying to clear his throat), and he is also licking the air / his nose quite a lot. He is eating and drinking as usual and toileting is fine. Does this sound like a cold? Is there anything I can do for him?
Thanks in advance for your help

I have to say yours sounds like Kennel Cough as well. They do not have to cough with it I'm afraid. You really should not be mixing with any other dogs. Dogs do not actually get "colds" as we know them!!!!!!
He may just have a slight case and never actually cough. Fingers crossed.
He's a typical boy... no such thing as a common cold, it's Man Flu!!!
Best of luck with it if it is KC, poor Danny
Yep, if you think it is KC then I'd call the vet tomorrow and they can usually tell you over the phone if that's what it is. If they want to see him then they will prob either come to your house, or get you to come in as last appt for the day (so you don't infect any other dogs while he's in there).
If it is KC then no leaving the house/yard for 3-4 weeks (my vet says 4 weeks, but other people on here have had their vets say 1 or 2 weeks) so it really can vary depending on your vet as to how long you should stay in for.
The only thing you can really do for Danny is give him cough medicine. He might appreciate ice cubes and honey in his Kongs (honey is well known for soothing sore throats in humans so I assume it does the same for dogs??).
Now I am a fan of honey - I have access to lots of it and when I had my litter last year the pups had honey in there breakfast every morning. Honey and ice cubes sounds a great idea.
I have to say unless you are worried I wouldn't bother with the vet just let it run its course.
How long will it last approximately? He seems worse this morning... very lethargic and still has a runny nose - still no hacking or coughing though I am quite worried and don't know whether to contact the vet or not... is it likely he will be OK for the weekend?
