My pups eyes opened on days 14 and 15 and I too had read 7-10 in BOTB. I wondered if it was because my pups were born on day 60 or perhaps some breeds eyes open earlier? Hopefully Di will see this and let us know!
Ok I can only tell you how I have always done it from year dot with my parents on to now....:
" Although she is a good Mum, keeping Sophie in the box for any length of time is proving to be a bit of a fight at the moment. Even though she is in the lounge, she wants to get out and sit with us. She's also quite moody, and doesn't understand why she can't go out for a walk (even though we've promised to make it up to her when it's all over) "
Do you know what, I walk them... anywhere they darn well fancy from whenever they darn well fancy it.
Some sit like terracotta soldiers in the whelping box having to be dragged out by their collars just for a WEE till day 14, some by day 2 are twitchy and saying 'ok, ok, I LOVE them but hell.... the others are going for a WALK goddammit...!'
Some don't even love them much and say 'hey, woman, you wanted them - you HAVE them!' grin....
All bitches vary. Abnsolutely do not nail your bitch to the whelping box. Its down to you to keep the room temperature or the box the pups can be put in to keep them warm, to hand, and the let her trot off into the blue yonder.

We were a good two weeks in before the eyes started to open - it was quite funny really because some of them were up and (wobbly) walking but didn't have a clue where they were - I too was concerned because of what is said in the BOTB - but from my own experience and the others on here - seems this is quite normal for labs
Thanks for your answers, was starting to worry a bit that they'd got a dodgy gene that glued their eyes shut. Still nothing today though!
Di, couldn't help but laugh at what you wrote. Sophie is definately swinging between I love them a bit but only cos I should, and, you wanted them, you look after them! I think she was ready to go out for a walk after three days, and when I did walk her, I don't think she thought about the puppies for a minute, so I wouldn't wait next time. Ah, it's all learning isn't it!
Bob was away last night, so I took my turn on the sofa (hopefully my last!), and she voluntarily spent virtually all night with them, only coming out 3 times for about 30 minutes to cool down, so I was really proud! (God they're noisy at night:). Still not sure when we'll have the courage to leave her to look after them at night, especially as we've taken the pig rails out of the whelping box cos they keep getting stuck under them (they have got so big already) . I'm too scared, you know, just in case.

Hi
Lovely pics. Sorry about the little girl. We have a litter of seven squeelers at the moment and OH and me also slept with them. We have one bit of trouble with one dog but managed to revive him with some Brandy. It was touch and go. Sometimes its for certain reasons never found.
