Hi all, just wanted to check I'm not paranoid before rushing off to the vet! We were all sitting quite happily last night watchin tv, when Maisy started being very odd! She was fast asleep, but was twitching like mad! I know it's normal for dogs to twitch in their sleep, but I've never seen anything like this, it was really bad! Her whole body was going, not just her paws, and her breathing was really irregular. It went on for about 5 minutes, then i called her name, she woke up, and was happily playing about with me as though nothing had happened. When we were in bed last night I noticed the same thing again, but the breathing was worse, really noisy and irregular. I ended up sitting up all night with her, as I was worried she was going to stop breathing all together! We've also noticed that she snores really loudly! Is this all normal puppy behaviour?
On a seperate note, could we have some healing vibes sent to Corringham please?! next doors yellow lab, Barney, has been very very poorly after eating a lump of plastic which got stuck on its way out. He had emergency surgery on Monday to remove it, but the vet is still very worried about him. So get well soon Barney! I know his Mummy and Daddy are very very scared for him at the moment

cant give too much advice on the twitching, except that rico does it too but im sure people will be along soon with a lot more knowledge

My 13 yr old does this ,she thrashes her legs about and her body twitches and she make the most god awful whimpering noise ! Laughing
So long as she awakes and responds to you when you call her ,she is probably just dreaming .would be concerned if you couldnt raise her when she was doing it though.

((((Healing vibes)))) to Barney.

They can make unbelievable movements and noise in their sleep when dreaming. Queen and Que howl at times and wake the house up!

If you think of dreams being the brains way of getting rid of unwanted information, it's quite possible that heavy twitching, legs thrashing etc is a dog dreaming about the last walk/run they had.

Hope Barney's better soon.

Dreaming is not only for getting rid of unwanted information but processing experiences in general.

Dogs do seem to kick wilder in their sleep when they have had some nice experiences.
I always notice heavier movement and louder noise after working with my dog.
Not the fysical effort but the mental effort has a big influence to my opinion.

Aww Bless Maisie...she must have been having some really good dreams. Very Happy

I know mine all have a twitch, gruff, whine and woof occasionally...but Tara goes the whole hog, legs flying about everywhere, especially if she has chased a bunny earlier in the day. When my MIL first looked after her, she thought she was having Epileptic fits and kept waking her up, just incase. Laughing

Mine snore occasionally too, usually when they are laid with their head over the arm of a chair or the back of their beds.

Lots of healing vibes winging their way to Barney too~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
