Just taken a look at the lovely photos taken by Ness. I will have to treat myself to a decent digital camera now.
Thank you Leanne & Ness for travelling such a long way & for making the whole day a pleasure. We started the walk from my house in the village of Sheen & took the footpath through fields to Hartington which is a popular place for people walking Dovedale to start off from. From Hartington we then proceeded into Beresford dale where the scenery is really beautiful. The dogs had to be kept on lead until then because of sheep & cattle but for the rest of the walk they had a great time swimming & chasing about. To finish a further 3/4 mile walk through Narrowdale which was an uphill climb past an isolated, deserted farm which would be a great place if it were to be renovated. As we had walked 4 - 4.5 miles I had to find a way of transporting the three of us home. I thought that when Leanne & Ness saw the vehicle they were being carried in that I would have had a "clip round the ear" but I think they both enjoyed sitting on a bale of straw bouncing about in a transport box. The day ended with sandwiches & a drink at the Manifold valley hotel.
I really enjoyed the day & thanks again to both of you for being such good company. Hope I didn't make the walk too long. Will let you both have copies of the two photos I took of you with my antiquated APS camera when they're developed.
Next year will do another walk either further down Dovedale or along the tarmac footpath which runs along the Manifold valley.

Sorry i've not managed to make in on-line until now but i had a fabulous day!
The walk was beautiful - definitely worth visiting! John really had everything perfectly planned (from homemade biscuits when we arrived to our secret mode of transport which was great fun!).
I am sooooo pleased with Pud - he has always been a bit wary of new things but yesterday he had so many firsts - first time on a train, jumping over stiles, up close and personal with cows and sheep, and riding in a tractor!!! And he took it all in his stride. Although i wasn't so impressed by his steam train impression which had my hands red raw and close to strangling him at times!
The journey home was 'interesting' we were all exhausted and the dogs were beautifully behaved but Pud abosolutley stunk . As Ness said he coated himself and his flat collar and canny collar in a cow pat within minutes of starting the walk (a very clever way of getting out of wearing the canny - i couldn't touch it!). I'd used a hose and soap from the bathroom at the lovely pub we visited to give him and his collar a good clean but clearly not good enough! The looks we got on the way home were quite amusing - one man actually came right out and pointed out that my dog stunk! As soon as we got home it was straight into the back for another hosing with lots of dog shampoo and a soapy bucket of water for his collars and lead to soak in over night! He still smelled after that but a wiping over with baby wipes seems to have done the trick!
My favourite part of the day was probably pulling into the pub car park int he back of the tractor - the look on the faces of the people sitting outside was a picture! The scenery was fantastic from the views over the hills to the lovely little villages. I also loved looking back from the final point and seeing how far we walked, oh and the river was beautiful too!
Thanks very much John, we'll definitely be coming again!
