Anyone fancy a long walk (approx 3.5 miles) in the southern Peak District on the Derbys/ Staffs border. Starting from my house in the exotic Staffordshire moorland village of Sheen ( we have streetlamps but no gas or sewerage system) & walking 1/2 mile on the road followed by a footpath leading to the Dove valley & the tourist mecca of Hartington which boasts a duck pond, two pubs, a tea room & various shops!
After pausing here we will then proceed down the Dove valley to Beresford dale which I have walked tonight for the first time in 20yrs, the scenery alongside the Dove being very impressive. After all this there is still a 1 3/4 mile walk back to my house but I think everyone will have walked enough by then but do not fear I have a way to cart you all back to my house literally but I will leave that to your imagination.
Once home refreshments will be served before you leave ( if I can get hold of an industrial sized tea pot)
Anyone wishing to participate in this madness please let me know nearer the time as the caterer (me) will need to know numbers in order to prepare his gastronomic delights (sandwiches).
One drawback is that the dogs will have to be kept on lead most of the time but I think that the scenery will more than make up for it.
I look forward to seeing if anyone expresses an interest in this walk.
I would have loved to come - but that is my son's birthday and I live in Hampshire. Now if the walk were to be done on the first weekend in October when I am on my way back from a holiday I would definitely plan route and timing to come and join you. Neo would love such a walk!
Hope that I manage the next one. Good luck and have a lovely day!
I'm definitely ok for the Sat but my mum is having none of the sun (something along the lines of i can't possibly be thinking about going to a GT on her birthday! I did try to explain that it was actually a proper walk ).
See what suits everybody else - but if i miss this one you'll have to organise it again!
Hi Leanne,
I've just taken a look at the calendar & I will not be at work that weekend so Saturday is fine with me. Will see what the others think & sort something out. If it's a bad weekend for everyone it can take place another day.
I've been waiting for this post for ages now John!!!
As already discussed, I'm fine for either date, but of course we have to keep Leanne's Mum happy so I vote for Saturday 20th
See that this weekends NW GT has been postponed. Anyone fancy a long walk instead?
John, if we could meet up near a train station then id be up for it, could do with getting out of town for a good walk, bakewell and buxton both have stations
