Does anyone have one of those Springer or Walky dog bike systems and if so how does you dog get on with them? Probably really mean if it broke would you buy it again type of question.

I know all the con's like potentially giving your dog a heart attack if you don't take their level of fitness etc into consideration. Just thought it might be one of those items you buy and never use although I like cycling so it might be a good idea for us.

Sally, not sure exactly what you mean? Do you mean a harness so he runs in front of your bike?

Hey you could have a harness for him to tow you and a trailer on the back for you to tow him when he gets knackered!!

I met someone at Seaton through the summer who had one. They swore by it. It was basically the only way they could get their lab round the village as she was verrrrrrrrry poorly but they wanted her to be with them all the time due to her illness. If you're into your cycling and your dog is happy to be towed around in one of these, I think they're a great idea. If you havent tried one, it may be worth renting one first if you can, you never know, Bo may not like the idea of it. I'd be interested to hear how you get on though. We're off to Centre Parcs next year and will probably hire a bike with a buggy on the back of it for Shadow.

Nooooo Steve not a carry your dog thingy. One of these: http://www.springerusa.com/

Yes Nicola but they don't run in front of the bike they run by the side of it and alledgedly (hmm that spelling looks suspect Confused ) the spring system inside them stops you getting pulled over if they try to join the dog on the other side of the road. Am thinking as our lanes are so quiet here it might make a change to go out cycling with Bo. There's another make too they sell on ebay called Walky dog I think.

Not something I`d use personally but have seen dogs being run on them, can`t say i agree with them though, some people seem to make the dog run all the time, to me thats not fair, dogs like to have sniff round and be able to mark trees etc when they are out Very Happy

Oooooh, they look like fun. I'd be slightly worried about the dog seeing something off to one side and going for it, spring or not. Is there anywhere you can rent/borriw one from?

Mary as with all things you have to be sensible when using them. Bo has 3 walks a day. I like to try and not do the same thing twice running to add variety. Doing a bike ride a couple of times a week would be quite nice for a change. I'm guessing there will be, as in all things, some people who might get a bit obsessed about using them.

Steve I watched the video with interest when the GSD I think tried really hard to greet the other dog and the guy stayed perfectly upright. I don't have a problem with Bo doing that in a normal walk so I guess chances are he wouldn't do it on the bike. Yes I wish I could try it out first but don't know of anyone I could borrow one from.

aww ,wheres the fun in that ?
How can you be expected to get your head down rabbit holes ,roll in cow pats ,eat sheep poo, jump in the drain ,chase another dog and forget you have your owners with you and all the other fun stuff that makes a walk when your being dragged along side a bike ?! Laughing

Laughing Laughing Laughing Sorry, it was the cow pat thing, it's horse jobby here but that made me giggle Laughing Laughing Laughing

Borrowing one althought the ideal thing wouldn't work if you can't. I can see what the others are saying about sniffing and rolling about but there's nothing stopping you doing that part way through a bike ride and yes, it would make a change for Bo. Will have to wait and see if anyone else here has one or has used one.
