Hi there - I am fairly sure of my own diagnosis of this horrible beast on my poor baby girl. She has lumps on both sides of he face and on the edge of one ear. She isn't scratching like mad but has had a go at them and they are bloody and now has a couple of bald patches Crying or Very sad

My question is:- is there anything I can do for her until I can get her to the vet on monday morning?

Your help would be most appreciated Wink

Hi
When they thought Archie had sarcoptc mange they prescribed Advocate which we already had in the cupboard as flea treatment and also a medicated bath, although that was from the vet.

As it turned out the treatment didnt work as he had an allergy to beef, pork and lamb and dust, his main symptoms were scratching his ears and shaking his head and he had blisters.

I think the vet said that pouring cool water over them gives instant releif from the itching and not too much bedding,we had to replace blankets with a towel until we could get some anti allergy bedding.

What flea treatment do you use?I wonder if frontline kills mites or which ever you use,we had to use it every 2 weeks for 6 weeks

I hope you get everything sorted soon

Jackie and Archie

Thanks for that Jackie - I am pretty sure it's not an allergy that has presented all of a sudden and nothing has changed either. I use Frontline Spot-on from the vet and do both girls every months in the summer as we are over-ridden with foxes and the walks we tend to take are over farmland.

Do you think I should frontline her again in the meantime?

Sorry, I can't offer any advice at all but just want to say that I hope you find a treatment for her and she's ok again really soon.

I remebered the name of the active ingredient ,its ivermectin ,so if frontline has that in it ,then that would probably work too ?

When was the last time you used the frontline? If it says it treats mites then i would use it today, especailly if you havent used it in a while, maybe i am wrong as Archie is my first dog and i am sure that someone more expert will be on here soon.If it were me i suppose i would have to use something rather than them itching.

Good luck and hope she is better soon, everything happens at the weekend!!

Thanks for your replies guys. I have both Bob Martins spot on and the frontline spot on. But neither of them has ivermectin in them. Bob Martin has Permethrin in it and frontline is Fipronil.

Shall I give one of them a go??

Is this any help? Just copied it from a page:

Frontline, another monthly topical liquid treatment for fleas and ticks, also has a claim to aid in the control of scabies. Note that some dogs will continue to itch even after Scabies mites are killed, due to an allergy to the mites, or secondary bacterial infections, so anti-inflammatory or antibiotic treatment may be required to fully resolve the problem - a veterinary prescription will be required for either of these treatments.

Ain't that a fact Jackie Rolling Eyes She was due to be frontlined this week so I have just done her now - figure it cant do her any harm at least. Just bathed them as well which she seemed to like. Will let you know what the vet says on Monday.

Many thanks for everybody's help Wink
