I have just been looking through champdogs for puppies and to my absolute shock and I have found a breeder who is selling 2 litters of puppies. The first litter is born to a bitch who is 8.5 months old, so must have been around 6 months when bred, the other litter is to a bitch who had a litter 9.5 months previously.

Anyone currently looking for a lab should be really careful, as none of these litters will be registerable with the Kennel Club under their rules and I would hope that anyone reading this would not wish to encourage this type of exploitation of the poor dogs and only buy from reputable breeders.

Please, please, beware and check the ages of the parents and how often and when they have been bred before buying a puppy.

This does happen more than you realise and very often the bitch would have actually had a season in between....some only go 4 months, and the litter I believe can be registered.

The other, I'd have to see to believe................

How come they are allowed to advertise on Champdogs with pups born to a bitch that young, I thought it was a place for genuine breeders who did all health checks etc, the bitch isn`t even old enough to have a hip score done Confused

I have already e-mailed champdogs and have had a reply back straight away and they are going to investigate it. I do know that they take these matters seriously, and anyone else seeing something similar, should report it to them.

Quote from the Kennel Club website, I was sure that the KC wouldn't allow 2 consecutive litters within 1 year of each other, but must be getting confused with something else - apoloigies, but still no excuse for the other one!!!

"Before thinking about breeding from your bitch, you should acquaint yourself with the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations on registering litters and the registration system in general. A Guide to Litter Registration can be obtained from the Kennel Club, but you will need to remember that the Kennel Club will not accept an application to register a litter when:

a) The bitch has already whelped six litters, or

b) The bitch was under a year old at the date of mating, or

c) The bitch has already reached the age of eight years at the date of whelping.

N.B. Relief from the last restriction may be considered if an application is received by the Kennel Club prior to mating and provided the dam has previously whelped at least one other registered litter, and the application is supported by veterinary evidence confirming the suitability of the bitch involved in the proposed whelping."

Izzy Molly I am intrigued by your comment
"The other, I'd have to see to believe................"
Just wondering why? hard to express my tone asking this question I am not asking in a cheeky way just genuinly interested why you think it is so unlikely?
Personally I think it is very sad that a dog so young has been bred from and I hope the complaint to champdogs has been taken seriously and the advert has been removed.

Yes, the litter to the underage bitch has been removed thankfully. Champdogs were very quick on that one! The other litter is still on though, if you want to work it out??? Wink

I made the comment because I can't believe any intelligent person would openly advertise a litter from a puppy aged bitch on a place like CD without repercussions.....................also, I did look for this on CD and saw no evidence to support the initial claim made
