Archie has food and dustmite allergies his spots/rash looks very different to that, when he eats beef, pork and lamb by mistake he has lots of yellow and red pimples and we have a steroid cream from the vet and now they do a spray,it is about 8 pouinds but lasts for ages, when it is really bad he has to have antibiotics. My Vet said dogs with allergies often have to have several courses of antibiotics a year.We have vet bed gold for him to lie on that is brilliant for sore skin as dustmites cannot live on this bedding
most of the sellers have links too on what to do with them, but basically i just chuck a few into a bag (like the percil tablets bags), into the washer with the laundry and voila done! the only down side is that whites can look quite dull after about a dozen or so washes, so wash then with some non-bio (it contains more bleach than bio) and its brings them back again. soap nuts dont smell either, so remember to add some nice essential oil to the condition part to make the whole wash smell lovely! (lavender, tea tree and lemon are nice and they help to discourage fleas too!)
there are loads of recipies too for making your own household cleaner, shampoo, pet shampoo etc etc etc
I think peroxide is bleach. I would be very careful about applying that not that I know anything but I would have thought that it would easily make things worse.
I've jsut done a search for Camrosa and that appears to be aimed at horses but I don't think it was the magic cream.doh! Wish I had a brain!!
Done a search on Neem cream as well - I think it is more likely to be that but I honestly can;t remember - in my defence this conversation did take place about 10 years or so ago when we had Sam....!
Hi again
No, peroxide is not bleach. It only becomes so if mixed with bleach powder as used to bleach hair. It is commonly used as a general cleaner/disinfectant by many vets, kennels and breeders. I have also, for instance, been instructed to use it when my 3 month old foal developed an abcess on her jaw. We had to rinse the hole with 20% peroxide (a large syringe full) twice a day. Eventually the hole was right through to her mouth so the peroxide foamed out her mouth!!!!
10% or 29% is not harmfull and obviously is used in limited quantities.
You should be able to buy it at any chemist.
I bred Poms and Rough Collies 30 years ago, both breeds being prone to rashes and hot spots, and even then used to use peroxide. BTW our kennels used to be cleaned out with water containing bleach as it is the best disinfectant for concrete flooring that there was.
Hey, no problem, easy to be confused! There are just so many remedies out there, the secret is always to find the one that works for you and your dog. Always remember that what works for me is not necessarily what will work for you, but also dont expect instant results - so you have to give something you try, time to work.
I personally prefer natural/ herbal/ non-chemical or man-made rememdies as far as possible so I search everything on Google and drive my vet mad with queries - its just the way I am though.
I am with you on the natural front - don't know what the new vet is like but you SHOULD have the one I've just fallen out with - he was so offensive about natural and homeopathic remedies...
