There isnt specifically a test for alopecia, its more of a "test for everything else, and if its not them then its alopecia" lol. The vet will probably do some skin scrapes to test for infection or infestations, but imho if he is happy and otherwise healthy its not worth £3000 of other tests to rule everything out. they might get you to do a wee sample and measure how much he drinks (indicators that more tests are needed if its not in the normal range). i would pop him along for a chat, and see what they say - but if he is healthy then dont go down any routes you dont feel necessary.
