Well after months and months of hydrotherapy, test after test and more sleepless nights than I care to remember, Rocky my GR finally went in for his hip replacement yesterday morning.

It was going to be an in and out job where he only went in on the morning of surgery and came home the same evening if he didn't appear to settle well. We got there at 8am and he was to be the first surgery of the morning.. 5pm we had to wait til for a phone call on his progress - blimey those hours dragged!!! Shocked But at 5pm the phone rang and it was the specialist. They were really happy with how he came through the operation, everything went perfectly and Rocky was fairly settled as he came round. Though he'd just had a slight incident of pulling his catheter out so they'd decided it would be better if he came home to recover. He's super anxious in the vets so they figured he'd be better off calm at home, rather than leaving him to get himself more worked up..

So off we went to Runcorn to pick him up as fast as rush hour traffic would let us (30mins to be exact)!! They showed us his x-rays of the new hip and it all appeared to be perfect, they said the positioning couldn't be any better and they were very pleased with how he was already using it. Then they gave us some pain killers, anti inflammatories and antibiotics to give him over the next few days. Then we went to get him out of his kennel, I was expecting it to be fairly bad because usually he'll either go into "I have a big bark stay away from me" mode with the staff, or he'll run and hide in the corner. This time he came out with a whole "alright me old mucker" attitude as if to say "oh great, you've brought me Mum too". He even walked perfectly to heel all the way into the car - usually we have the pulling "get me out of this god damned place!" walk back to the car. Very Happy Very Happy

He was a little whiny last night but by midnight he was fast asleep and we didn't hear a peep til 6am this morning. I've spent the last few hours watching him like a hawk! He seems quite happy to be walking on it, though he's walking around like a lost soul every now and then.. I'm not sure whether it's just restlessness or whether he's looking for the other dogs - they're on holiday at Nanna's for the moment, but they'll be back tomorrow. Something tells me that's when things might get a little more difficult.. Shocked

So far though, he's been the perfect patient and for Rocky, that's quite something!! My only concern is he's still VERY clicky when he's moving around.. Has anyone else noticed this with their dogs after the operation? He does have HD in his left side too, but so far it's not thought to be anywhere near as bad as his right leg was and not in need of a replacement, yet.

I meant to ask yesterday if Rocky was in hospital.

The brave little soldier, I'm glad everything went well for him.
I don't envy you tomorrow when Yorkie & Chief come home, you'll need eyes in your backside.
Rocky will probably manage to keep them in toe though and give them a "get away from me" bark. Wink

Sending lots of love n licks and {{{{{{healing vibes}}}}}} to Rocky and a finger wag and a stern "be gentle to your Brother" to the other two. Wink
