Pudsey's xray results are bad news yet again.

Once again the flipping cup has slipped. I saw the x rays and the amount of cement he had holding it was loads and there is this huge crack down the middle off it.

No the even more bad news....

This time it can not be done again.

We was told tonight that if it has failed the first time the chances of a second failure was high anyway.

So my next question was 'what did we do wrong', although he was wrapped in cottenwool maybe i excercised him more than i should have done. But Hugh says he has a very shallow pelvis which put him at a disadvantage anyway and we did everything right.

So now Pudsey is going to see a specialist in Solihull ( i didnt get the name i was too upset). He deals with hip replacements that have had problems or failed.

Hugh said there would be most likely be two options

The first is to screw the hip cup in place, which sounds the best option, but hugh said it doesnt last a life time and cant be done again..so maybe not the best choice.

The second option is to ake the whole lot out and let the muscle grow where the knuckle was and that works better in lighter dogs but has been done in larger dog too.

Neither of them sound great do they?????

To say i am gutted is an understatement, this poor fella has had so much thrown at him already, two failed operations, so far all he has ever known is pain. At the moment i hate the breeder who breed him and never bothered with hip scoring.

The operations he went through was very painful, and what for ..nothing. My poor Puds, but bless his little cotten socks, he is still happy and wagging his tail. He is such a cheerful dog, i wish i could take a leaf out of his book. He is such a brave solider.

Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to let you know what is happening.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that the news from the vets wasn't what we were all hoping for but hopefully the specialist will be able to offer some alternatives. Do you know how long Puds will have to wait for the appointment?

Thinking of you Denise - it must be so hard for you to see poor Puds in pain.

Hugs to you all

The second option sounds like salvage surgery...

"Femoral Head and Neck Excision: Femoral head and neck excision is a procedure in which the head of the femur is surgically removed and a fibrous pseudo-joint forms. This procedure is considered a salvage procedure and is used in cases where degenerative joint disease has occurred and total hip replacement is not feasible. The resulting pseudo-joint will be free from pain and allow the animal to increase its activity, however, full range of motion and joint stability are decreased. For best results, the patient should weigh less than 45 pounds, however, the procedure may be performed on larger dogs."

With the first option, when he says it doesn't last a lifetime.. How long does it last? Any ideas? Is it a guarantee it would work?

I hope you get an appointment with the specialist soon to get answers and can get him comfortable whatever way possible!

Thinking of you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh poor Puds!!!!!

Big {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} to you & Puds

Why do we have to make such decisions - it would be so much easier if the vet just said this is the only course of action wouldn't it .... whichever way you go here is some {{{{{{big brave soldier vibes}}}}}}
