I am at my wits end with Pet Plan.

When we brought Dibley home he had some diarrhoea, because it was Saturday and I didn't want to have an emergency call out I took him to the vet, in essence I panicked!

Having had much deliberation over what insurance to go for we finally decided to go for the top policy from Pet Plan, which was the most expensive and had the highest excess but did give the best cover with not limit per year for long term conditions!

We were honest and put that Dibley had been to the vet. When we got the policy through it had an exclusion for diarrhoea! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I rang and complained and they said that they would take it off after three months with a letter from the vet! Dibley is now nearly 8 months old and I still haven't managed to get it taken off the policy. I must have phoned about 10 times over the last 2-3 months and they just keep saying that they haven't got the information from my vet, despite the fact that my vet says that they have sent it, more than once.

I have told them I want my calls registered as a complaint, so what do they do send me a curt letter saying they can't deal with Dibley's exclusion unless they have the vet's records Shocked Shocked Shocked , don't they read my file.

Last night I rang to complain and they promised someone would call by 8pm, they didn't, I have rung this morning and no team leaders are in but one will ring as soon as they arrive.

I know I need to put this complaint in writing now but really.

So all you people out there, I wouldn't touch Pet Plan with a barge pole! Of course the other problem now is that while they have been faffing Dibley has other pre-existing conditions which makes changing more difficult!

Don't do it, don't go with Pet Plan!

I agree with Patricia and would not recommend petpland - I'm with Petplan and so far am not very happy, when we got Bess we took out a standard type cover, after reading some of the posts on here I decided to see about upgrading to the lifetime cover. to date I have rang then and emailed and other than an acknowledgement of my emails i haven't received anything. I will be looking to change companies when it comes up for renewal

Oh dear, i changed over to pet plan recently and have got the lifetime cover for both my pets, i had been honest with them about my pets health prior to, willow had a very bad stomach bug when she was 6 months old and they have been fine about it probably because she is now 3, i think you will find that all companies will put exclusions on for a pre insurace illness or injury, some with a time limit, others for ever

I use Direct Line - though have not had to claim - but they are pretty good with customer service!

Afraid i disagree, Petplan have been brilliant with my dogs and all claims have been paid out both quickly and easily.

I've had nothing but good experiences from Petplan, although I haven't made a claim this year (now I've jinxed it!!) They even paid up for a homeopathic consultation with my old lab (on referral from my vet)

We have Petplan for Barney who is a rescue dog when we got him I registered him with Petplan explaining I knew nothing about his history and they weighted the insurance accordingly, we pay £33 a month with £90 excess. Anyway 3 months after getting barney he got D&V and was admitted to the vets for rehydration for 4 days had antibiotic injections painkilling injections all sorts of treatment. The bill was £200+, we put a claim into Petplan and I had a phone call from them saying they needed his past medical history (PMH) i explained the situation to the girl, but she insisted I contact the rescue people and get his history, this discussion went on for 3-4 phone calls, finally at my wits end I emailed a complaint to Customer Services and the claim was settled the next day!!! Wink Since then Petplan have been brilliant and have paid up every claim without question including one for MRI scan etc for £2000+

My pets have always been insured with Petplan, I've found that they are fine, no problems with paying claims (and there've been quite a few!)
I have a new puppy and he'll also be insured with Petplan.
