It has been just over 8 weeks since Pudsey had his second operation, and he has not recovered well and as quickly as i hoped. He is still limping and shows great discomfort if we reduce his metacam. When he had it done the first time he was walking with out a limp and off pain killer by week 4, That first operation had complications due to the cup slipping.
I can't understand how anything could go wrong, we have been extra strict with Puds, he gets cage rest alot of time, and if he does get excited we calm him down. He hasnt been alowed to run at all.
I know there area few of you on here that has had dogs that have had hip replacements, what was their recovery time?
Puds is at the vets tomorrow for another xray, and to be honest i am dreading the results because i don't know what they can do for him if it has gone wrong again....I will also want answers to why its not right again. I have a great relationship with the vet, but i do sometimes wish that IRR would have stretched the pennies so he could have gone to a specialist. Maybe I am wrong to say it, but i do believe Puds would have been running around with the other dogs if we had took him somewhere else
My OH seems to thing i am worrying for nothing and its just muscle damage from having 2 operations so close together, but i have this horrible feeling its more.
Oh Denise - I really hope P is right! But 8 weeks is a long time considering how fast he improved last time. But for tonight please try not to worry as the Xray is tomorrow and you wont til then. Good luck for the trip up the vets though.
Obi recovered very quickly in many ways, bum tucking withing 10 days of each operation. However one of operations was more difficult than the other and the vet had to partially cut a muscle. That leg is definitely stiffer than the other and there is a hint of a limp sometimes. However I think it is still getting better slowly after 5 months.
I am no expert but I doubt there would be any pain from the joint itself. Its either working and securely attached or its not. A dislocation would probably be obvious. I would have thought that the pain is far more likely to be from the muscles.
I hope you get good news tomorrow. It's very easy to worry, I keep catching myself thinking "Oh that was a funny hop, what has he done now". So far there's not been a problem, just a playful bouncy pup.
I can only go by Charlie's recovery. He did recover much quicker from the first operation than the second.
With the second one there were complications and he had to have it re-done but it was within a week so his muscles probably hadn't had as much time to start healing as Pudsey's.
He's had 2 very big operations and if he were human he'd probably still be lying in his bed saying 'leave me alone'.
Charlie was up and about quicker than Pudsey but all dogs. like humans. recover at different rates.
Hopefully Pudsey will soon be racing round chasing frisbees like Charlie was doing at the GT
Oh Denise I feel for you and Pudsey. I do so hope that it is good news tomorrow for you both, but you know the xrays have to be done in order to make sure there is nothing wrong. And if there are (which I sincerely hope there are not) complications at least you will know what you are facing and hopefully have a plan of campaign...
IRR sorry are these the insurance company or is it a rescue organisation - sorry to be so thick! Can you talk to them again about what they will fund if he is not doing so well...
