Morning all,

Right we are in day 6 of quarantine and today Majic's symptoms are a lot worse, she has been sick, is wretching/coughing more and generally not herself.

Is it common for her to get worse after I thought she was getting better?

She is currently on Benylin, 150mg Baytril (AB's) and 20mg Rimadyl (anti Inflamms)

She is crated as no exercise apart from necessaries and a little on the spot training otherwise she will go crazy.

Any thoughts please?

Gracie only had KC mildly, so her symptoms stayed the same throughout. Poor Maj, wish I could help. Must be horrible for her being couped up. Ring the vets would be my only suggestion.....((hugs))

Yes, it probably will get worse before it gets better but give the vet a ring to reassure yourself.

Just wanted to say try giving her some garlic tablets. I have always found they work wonders, having majical properties Laughing

I am sorry to hear about this Sad

This is just a thought, but did the vet recommend Benylin in conjunction with her anti-inflammatories and anti-biotics?

I am only asking because very often, two similar medications can make the symptoms worse, and I think Benylin has pain-killing medication which may not go well with the anti-inflammatories.

I would be inclined to take her back to the vets, or at least ring the vet if her symptoms are worsening - I do hope everything is going to be okay.

Just check that out with the vets Carroll, because on its own or with just anti-biotics, it may be fine, but probably not with the anti-inflammatories.

It is like when we have a cold, if you use two different types of medication such as Benylin for flu and a syrup for sore throats, the symptoms will worsen because they are both canceling each other out or working against each other.

I only know this because I have disabilites which require a lot of medication and I have to have regular discussions with my doctor if I get so much as a severe cold and sore throat as to what will be the best medication because I am on so many all ready Wink

Hi Carroll

I don't go down the antibiotic etc. route(although as Blue the Dane is ill with cancer she has them) as I have always found that it is better if kennel cough actually runs its course, a bit like a human cold really if you take too much medication it bungs you up and the nasties all get caught in your body and need to get out!!!!!!!! So I use Benylin on its own just to soothe things.

I would hate to argue with a vet but if M is crated does that mean she is not getting much fresh air? I agree she must have restricted exercise but fresh air is the greatest cure of all. She needs to clear her tubes!

All of mine are definitely on the mend and are out in the fresh air as I type. Hope this helps a little.

All the best.
