Ok, so folks asked for it, and for ONCE the Kennel Club listened
As of 1st August 2007 you now qualify under rule J(F)2 to run in a Show Gundog Working certificate day if you have
1) Won a CC
or
2) Qualified at some point for crufts in the BREED classes.
I have written to the powers that be to try and establish if this now overrides the original stipulation of another way to qualify being a 1st in ANY class other than brace, stud dog or progeny at a championship show.
But hopefully it will so that will mean anyone who has a 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a qualifier class can also try for their show gundog WC.... ACE! Anything that opens it up is good. However if this is at the expense of qualifying by taking a first in any class at a champ show (a non qualifier class included) will be gutted as for someone like me, who has it as a focus not an extra, I would rather get a first in maiden (or dog with the prettiest feet for all I care) and get in rather than qualifying for Crufts
Will come back whe it is cleared up. However, denise, this is your moment girl

Ok.... the show gundog working certificate or (SGWC) is a pass / fail test taken on game on a shooting day to see if the show dog has basic retrieving, gamefinding and obedience present
It is ALSO what you need to pass to take your dog from being a SH CH (Show Champion) to a CH (Champion).
So if you don't have the faintest chance of making your dog into a SH CH then its just kudos and a step in the right direction to keeping our breed NOT just capable of standing and wagging but actually being a useful shooting companion too.
BUt up to now the only way to be allowed to run in a test day is to either have won a Challenege Certificate (one step to being a champion - you need three of them to 'make the dog up') OR winning a FIRST place at a championship show in almost any class.
If you did that you could run in the SGWC. If not, you couldn't
They have now seemingly INCREASED the amount who can run in it, therefore encouarging others to train for it and keep working in mind as well as looks in their breeding, by allowing those who have won a qualifying place for Crufts to ALSO run in it.
You qualify for Crufts by coming first, second or third in certain classes at a championship show. So therefore allowing dogs who haven't won a first but a second or third too in certain classes.
Does that make sense now.
