My mum and dads lercher never used to eat her food when it was put down, she was getting one to one training at the time and the trainer told them to put her food down as normal, if she didn't eat it, which she didn't, to pick the bowl up after about 10 mins, tip food out, spit in the bowl and spread it around a bit and put the bowl back down. When the dog then sniffs their bowl, they think that you have eaten their dinner. It worked over a short time and now she eats her meals when they are given to her.
when we got harry we was told that he was on pet mince so we went out and brought 2 big bags of pet mince and of course the puppy mix he ate it the first day when we brought him home and then he wouldnt eat it i started to get worried and thought that maybe his dog bowl was to high so started putting it on a small side plate this didnt work he just had a little nibble with this i then thought he needs something then i went out and got the ped chum that i said that i wasnt going to do and then he lapped it up and when it got to meals times he knew and started yapping as he knew dinner was coming so i thought yes he liked it, i then went and put him on Royal C as i knew ped chum wasnt good as its full of rubbish just like when you feeding a child full of ads and they go hyper lol he loves his RC. The other half is so stritch on much i give him as he says he getting big but when the other half feeds him hes still hungry and looking for more. If he puts to much weight on then i cut it down. I think cause its says on the packet last for 17 days so what john done was / 4kg in to 17 days lol is he right ?
Anyway i found change of diet might be best but try the other people advice first to.
Hello and welcome to LF,
We were having the same problems with Bailey, who is only 8 and a half weeks, we do the 15 minute rule which seems to be working now, as when we put her food down she starts eating straight away.
My original pup Jazz, has never been interested in food, unlike most labs. Now we have others who are typical, she gets it removed if it's uneaten. When she was an only dog, it would remain in her bowl for as long as it took her to eat. (This was dried food). She is a good shape, neither fat nor thin, although she is small.
