Just wondering if anyone is aware of the sort of healing/rest/no walks no rough play etc after one has had their balls removed?

Im due to be brining a dog or two home with the new job in a few months, and feel its best if bailey is finally removed of his giant balls, and was wondering if we have left it too late?

Id hate to do this and find im brining a new dog home to a chocolate lab who's still on recovery and cant play with the new friend

So what sort of recovery time is needed? and any other advice - thanks!

coal had op in the morning, got home and was bit sleepy that day but next day was bouncing about with no trouble. supposed to keep quiet for about a week ish but Coal healed very quickly. He didn't have a collar and had dissolving internal stitches. He did very well but he was quite young so don't know if that made a difference.

My boys had their ops in the morning, home in afternoon and slept off the GA. Next day were more or less back to normal. They were a bit sore and had some bruising for about a week. Both had dissolvable stitches and healed fairly quickly. Neither had to wear a collar.

Only known it on young dogs and cats and as above, after they get over the general they were fine the following day. I've known people who swear they get the "How could you have" look Very Happy but I'm not convinced.

if you saw the size of my labs bits - it'll be impossible for him not to miss them lol

bailey is around 17/18 months now so i think its about time - especially with the new arrivals in a few months hehe

I removed a tennis ball from Anna yesterday and she had got over it by first thing this morning! Wink

Seriously though, the big risk is tearing the stitches, so really, keep things quiet for a few days. I've never walked my dogs, (back in the days when I had dogs.) for the first three to four days, just let them wander about the garden. I never found the need to restrict access to the garden, but generally my dogs were quite quiet. When I did start taking them out I restricted it to on lead, and not too far, until the stitches were out. If the stitches are of the dissolvable kind them I would not go off lead until about 10 days, to allow the cut to knit.

Regards, John

Bo at 18 months was done recently. He had 10 days of lead walking ordered. However on his 7 day checkup vet said he had healed well and could have a good run around. He had the internal stitches with the glue stuff they put on the outside. hth Smile
p.s. forgot to say me being me , a worrier, waited another 3 days before I let him have a run Wink
