Hi everyone,
Thankyou all for your kind words of support. Just to answer a few questions, My children are aged 8, 11,14 & 16.
My vet has said that Buster could live for up to 2 years on the medication, but wouldnt express an opinion on what would be best for him, he said its a personal choice for me to work out for myself. Something i forgot to mention is that Buster has lost lots of weight, he's only four & half stone. Today he has a bit of a cough and laboured breathing no vomiting or anything like that. He still enjoys his walks, though they have to be short, his appetite seems normal. some days he seems perfectly fine others its as though he is at deaths door. Ive tried to post some piccys of Buster taken today, not sure if ive done it right though.
I`m afraid you`ll need to subscribe to be able to post anymore Sue, as i said though you`ll get a lot of support in which ever choice you make for Buster.
The vet says he may live up to 2 years on meds, but what is his quality of life like?, is he usually happy, you say he`s still eating, thats a reasonably good sign, for a Lab not to eat there has to be something very wrong usually.
It will be very hard on the children if you do decide to have Buster PTS, but you can`t keep him going for their sakes if he doesn`t want to carry on, the two older ones are old enough to understand that animals do pass on I imagine, the younger ones may find ity harder to understand, hopefully some members here will have had experience of pets dying when they`ve had young children and be able to help with how they handled it.
As the vet and we have said, ultimately the decision has to be yours, we aren`t there to see how Buster is and can only say what we may do in a similar situation
I ve spoken to Sue on the phone and she is a truly lovely lady and she will update me with any news on buster over the next few days until she can get her self subsrciped to LF ......
Buster sounds a truly wonderful dog who has had nothing but unconditional love and support from his owner and her family ......
I will post some pictures of Buster later when sue e-mails them to me .....
Talking to Sue about Buster was like talking about my Pepsi I think as time goes on we will help each other so thank you sue for that too ..
Hilary is riled because she feels that folks are taking a negative view and the dog should not be put to sleep or even be considered for being put to sleep until he 'gives a sign' he wants to go.
Hilary I just can't agree with you. You see WAYYYY to many people dragging on ancient, or sick animals because of their own selfish need to not lose them because it will - understandably - hurt incrediably.
Hilary do you feel this dog should labour on and die painfully then, but of his own accord?
Di
