Their website is quite sweet. they obviously love their dogs, but they pick and choose what health results they publish for each dog.... some they talk about their hip score, some they talk about their eye certificate.

Just a note, when you go ask for and to SEE a copy of BOTH parents eye certificate (which should be dated in the last 12 months for both - its like a car MOT) and also each parents hip score certificate. No excuses Wink Ideally you would see both parents Optigen result and elbow score but I have a feeling that won't be something they do.

They make some super claims on their website about working gundogs and so on, but have no results to back it up and are a bit vague about their health results.

I'm sure its fine but get copies of everything FIRST before you go see the pups and fall in love then have to act against your head and only for your heart Wink

Di

Something that didn't occur to me until this week - because we have moved we have paperwork here, there and everywhere, including some of the parents paperwork - but having registered the pups - ALL the information including dates of last eye certificates, parents Optigen status - endorsement of hereditary clear PRA etc is on there Very Happy

I am still going to dig out the actual paperwork (and copies in dads case) - but it could potentially be a good fallback position if people knew exactly how to read the pups registration papers Very Happy

If I get chance tomorrow, I will get one scanned in and put it on the Lab Health site Very Happy

The unpublished hip score is 13/13, which they say are fine for breeding Shocked ...not for me it's not...............the others are what they say from what I've seen, but as Di says, no elbow scores and no mention of optigen testing, which is fast becoming the "norm" with repsonsible breeders today Smile

What are the parents KC reg names? PM me if you like, and I'll check out the health tests for you Smile

Some good, sound advice already - Don't be shy about asking them questions: it says on the website that the dogs are gundogs but what are they used for? picking-up? sitting on the peg? walked up? or a bit of everything? ask to see the BVA certificates (as Di has mentioned) and what about Optigen testing? yes/no?

Maybe ask BEFORE going to have a look and fall in love with a pup - they are all cute at this age...

Walk away if you're not really happy with the answers they give you (phone them up and ask the questions) - remember that if the pup will have any health problems in the future, it will be YOU that has to pick up the bill and live with a dog that may suffer. Don't buy the pup because you feel sorry for it or think that it needs 'saving'.

But then again, the pups might be fine - I don't know Fenman Labs so I can't comment on the owners or dogs but a good breeder will NEVER shy away from questions asked by potential pup buyers Wink I'm just wondering about the the dogs kennel names and their breeding? I tried to have a look at the stud dog's pedigree but that link doesn't work. And all their dogs seem to wear collars - might just be me but I can't really remember the last time when I saw a working dog wearing a collar: never when it's working but then again these dogs are just sitting still in the pictures...

Just realized that they might just be from the same area where Jill (user name Ettinsmore on this site) lives and work her dogs - might just be worth dropping her a line?

Hi

As Natasha says they are quite "local" to me. I am not sure that I have come across them but I don't think any names are mentioned on their site apart from Tracey. I also find it a bit odd that they are all wearing collars (some with hearts on) slightly unusual for working folk!!!

I do know the background of the Stud Dog and he comes from good working lines. I do not recognise the Bitch.

If it were me I would be looking for Optigen testing on the stud but I doubt it has been done yet.

Di

Don't tell anyone but I have a secret desire for a whole stash of those diamante collars Embarassed . They would look so cool.

There is also a devil in me that says I should put them all on and turn up at the shoot with them on Evil or Very Mad . Can you just imagine there faces Rolling Eyes .

Just as an aside..., now Jill has mentioned it (!) what would happen if you turned up at a shoot with the dogs in really fancy-pantsy collars?!!
I know that they go naked when working, but in between?

I'm intreagued now!!! Go on Jill....Dare you...and then report back..please!!!!
