We changed Hudson on the James Wellbeloved large size puppy kibbles today from the Puppy Performance (pretty small kibbles). Same formula - Turkey and Rice for puppys. Somehow it seems to have made him sick.

I gave him 2 or 3 of the kibbles last night while I was weighing out todays meals and he was sick in his crate over night. Unfortunately I didn't notice he'd been sick until after I had given him breakfast which he woolfed down like it was his last ever meal! He's been sick all morning Sad

All the food is up and now and it's just bile. Mother in law is with him now so heres hoping he will be fine. He seems to be in fine fettle, or at least when he's not sick.

Has anyone else ever had this kind of problem?? We thought we had done the right thing - its essentially the same food, just the kibbles are slightly larger. They are no larger than the Purina Beta stuff he was on when he came to us. We mixed 2 thirds old size to one third new size.

Is it just co-incidental?? Its not the food that made him sick... but something else?? Or are these larger kibbles too big for him?

We can't think that he could have eaten anything last night that would have disagreed with him - though he is a little hoover and could have scarfed something on his walk. He was fine when he went to bed. Everything that went in to the crate with him at bedtime has been accounted for!

Poor wee scone.... anyone any ideas?

Awwww poor Hudson....

Maybe he has picked something up that you are unaware of? they are little monkeys for doing that aren't they!!! I have never experienced this, although like you I would have imagined the same food, just larger kibbles wouldn't have made a difference at all....

Hope he's better soon

Does he actually chew his food or just suck it all down? Wicca has to have her food soaked or she get sick when all the unchewed food expands in her tum. Sad

we gave him a couple of the larger kibbles last night... he definetly chewed them.... then was sick over night. This morning... I think he pretty much inhaled his food, so wasn't surprised he was sick... until I saw his bed.

Well it might have nothing to do with kibbles if you only gave him a couple last night. How's he been since this morning?

sounds like its something other than the food. Make sure he's drinking as young pups can become dehydrated very quickly. If he's not any better when you get home it might be worth popping him to vets just to be on the safe side.

When we changed coal's food over , he just got sloppy poops but it never made him sick.

hope its nothing xxx

Sounds maybe like he has a tummy bug. Ask the vet if worried, but Charlie has had this occasionally. Labs, after all, are notorious for eating any old rubbish they come across.

I would give him just fluid for up to 24 hours. Some of the water you can warm a little and add a tiny amount of sugar to keep his blood glucose level reasonable. Then maybe plain rice or pasta with a bit of scrambled egg before re-introducing his usual food.

I doubt if it is the change in size of kibble if it is made to the same recipe. You could try soaking it for a few minutes first.

Did you mean that you are trying "large breed" puppy food? If so then it can be to a slightly different recipe, and may have a higher protein content even if the flavour is the same. Labs do not need large breed foods, and indeed I think they are a gimmick anyway. I would just stick to his basic puppy food until 7 or 8 months and then think of putting him onto standard adult maintenance kibble.

Helen.

its the large kibble, puppy... turkey and rice...

It doesn't say anything about large puppy on the package..... I took it just to be the same as the puppy performance which is tiny kibble.

I'm still stumped as to why he's been sick.... he is sleeping again now... on the sofa right next to me! I just gave him some scrambled egg and he's drinking plenty fluids. He has been pooping and although they are smaller, they are not runny or anything.

Poor wee soul. I tried some sit stay recall with him... and bless him he still did it... though you can tell his whole heart isn't in it!!!

Its horrible when your pup isn't well......
