I think Bailey could do with losing a few Kilos but i'm not sure of the best way to go about it. I'm very strict with treats etc he has mainly carrots, apple and frozen banana kongs and rawhide chews (not all at the same time) Do i just give him less of his kibble or do i need to get some obesity management stuff instead? He's nearly 11 months old and weighs about 38 kilos. I spoke to his breeder recently and she told me his siblings are big as well, 2 sisters are 34 kilos and his brothers range from 34 -39 kilos. I'd like him to be about 35 kilos, he's got a bit of a waist but could probably' pinch an inch' Many thanks.
I think he is but i suppose its hard to be objective when its one of your own, my sig photo was taken 2 days ago but it may be difficult to see his weight. His mum weighed 7 stone and his dad was nearly 8 stone.
Thank you, i do try to be strict with him, he has 125grams of Royal Canin Labrador Junior twice a day which is less than recommended. I may be a little paranoid as someone commented that he must like his food.
it must be the name. Our bailey is currently 41kg. He has lost a couple of Kg lol. He is now 15 months but has fluctuated between 39kg and 43kg since about 11 months of age. when he had his 1 year check up and vaccination the vet didnt comment on his weight at all
Charlie is a big boy too. He weighs just under 43kg and when he saw his specialist in April I was waiting to be told to slim him off a bit. But he didn't say anything!!
Charlie is extremely deep chested and very muscly but his waist still tucks up. Ideally I would like him to lose a couple of kg though
I decided to weigh Bailey's food on the scales in case the measuring cup that came with the food was wrong , i put the cup on the scales then set my digital scales to zero and put in the kibble to the 125mark. The actual weight is 172grams and not 125, Bailey's been having an extra 94 grams per day, i'm really cross as i'm so careful with treats etc, i shall ring the manufacturers in the morning and complain bitterly.
Also if you are feeding "junior" food it will be higher in calories due to the extra fat and protein...I would swap him to the Adult version now and just reduce his quantities a little.....If he is still hungry on his reduced rations, try adding some cooked veg to his dinner to pad it out a bit.
