Some of you may know that our boy BJ is epileptic. He is on quite a heavy dose of potassium bromide for treatment ..... anyway, this may be a BIG mistake, but it has been just over 4 months since BJ had a seizure.
He has never gone this long before, the best being 5.5 weeks.
A few months ago, we changed his food from Pedigree to James Wellbeloved and he had a seizure about 3 weeks after the change, but nothing since.
We had a visit with the vet on Friday and he has agreed with us to reduce BJ's meds by half a tab twice a day. He is a good old country farming vet though and dismissed our thoughts about the diet change having an effect.
Please, please keep your fingers crossed for BJ and us.

firstly sending BJ a huge hug and kiss from both myself and Sherpa xxx
Now you know I'm not a vet and would always defer to the vet for advice
But just wanted to add that when We changed Sherpa's diet 2 years back he did have a cluster of seizures soon after ..... So there maybe something in that ????
It's great to hear that BJ's Kbr dose is bieng reduced Fay .... Fingers crossed here and Sherps has his paws crossed for his pal BJ too
Keep strong Fay and remember that loving an Epi- Labby takes courage and strength and taking each day as it comes
Woo Fay, It worries me. Be ready to increase straight away if needed. Also be aware that because of the half life it will be some time before any changes come through and if needed, some time before the increased dose has any effect. It's really worrying!!
I couldn't get back on here last night so I have only just seen your response John. I hope we are not making a mistake reducing the meds. It has taken over 3 years to get to this point, I'd be devastated if we went back there again.
So many different opinions, even between vets we get disagreements. We have just heard, albeit indirectly another vet say that epilepsy is not necessarily a permanent illness, never heard that before.
(Edited because since we went wireless, this computer/internet sometimes slows down to the point of beng unusable and then it stops dead )
My thanks for your reply, I must admit that your concerns have worried me.
Thing is Fay, the medication is doing exactly what you want it to do, prevent fits. I have in the past had two friends fall into that trap with dire results. Admittedly though they stopped medication rather than reduced it.

Certainly in humans it can be. I once worked with a young fella who had not had a fit for several years and I remember her was sweating on one more year free and he would be able to send for a driving license.
