Zak wears a collar, but the collar has caused his neck fur to have a permanant line around his neck, dogs without a collar dont have this and their coats look much nicer and smoother, Zak is very well behaved and walks to heel on or off the lead i never let him out of my sight and could put a slip lead on him on a main road, so is there any real reason why i should keep his collar on all the time??????
zak has an id tag he is also chipped, i would be traumatised if i thought he was lost without his tag on so it makes perfect sense to wear his id when out so maybe we should leave him with no collar when at home
Kia has a line of fur around her neck that seems to grow 'upwards' instead of laying flat. Her collar has caused this to happen. We tend to keep hers on all of the time, but I do take it off her if she is wet. Its hard to get it back on her though
Unless we are going out Jet runs naked all the time I don't like seeing his neck marked by collars either. It's not that much hassle to put a collar on and off, and he'll go and get his collar when we ask him too as he knows that means he'll be going out.
Mind you I do live in an extremly quiet area, a cul-de-sac of only 6 houses off of another cul-de-sac, off of a single track road. There is hardly any traffic here and Jet often wanders around the cul-de-sac if we are out the front, he likes to visit with the neighbors. If I were to live in a busy area I might have to reconsider for safety sake.
My two (who are both chipped) wear collars when on walks only, and no collar the rest of the time - i.e. in the house and garden.
If it was up to me they would be on slip leads on walks, but as its the law for them to wear a ID tag they wear a collar.
Having said this you can get a rolled slip collar - which wouldn't affect the fur like you describe (and provide me with the control I'd like), so maybe one of those is an option? I still wouldn't leave it on in the house though, but that's me!
