In view of rubbish wet weather we've had lately and dwindling supply of dog towels have decided to get a nice sensible waterproof coat for Bo. Something that isn't too thick or padded, lightweight but waterproof. Looking at some of them they don't look as if they would fit our deep chested labs. Does anyone have one that fits a lab well that they could recommend please? Smile

Do you think there could be a reason for this? Perhaps something to do with their natural thick waterproof coat? Wink

Personally, I would never put a lab in a coat for the reason you have stated unless they are one of the single coated labs that could get a chill (I think Vicky has a coat for Ruby)... There is a place on the net that do accessories specifically for large dogs, the name of this site escapes me at the moment.

Personally I wouldn't bother and just keep washing and drying the towels!!!!! Razz It would probably be cheaper to stock up on some cheap towels for the dog than buy it a coat anyway!

Have a look on E-bay...I just put Waterproof dog coats in and got a selection of 71 items. Wink

I haven't ever felt the need to put a coat on my Labbies, as I know they would rip it as they were tearing through the undergrowth, plus they would get far too hot.....But I suppose if you are only going for a quick 10 mins round the block and it is chucking it down then a coat maybe handy. Wink

Hmmm....the only reason I want the coat is to stop Bo getting soaking wet when its pouring. It's not to keep him warm and it's for my benefit really not his, as there will be less wet dog = less smell for one thing Wink We don't do climbing through the undergrowth type of walks. We do field schlepping for miles and if it's really chucking it down we do very quick round the lanes type walks.

I've already searched ebay but the point of asking for a recommendation is not to make a mistake and buy the wrong shape which are sometimes very difficult to scrutinise on websites photo's.

Getting wet is the fun part for them Very Happy Laughing Keira's natural waterproof coat is fine Wink

Like someone has said, they would probably rip it to bits and get too hot.

With respect I know my dog and he won't be ripping it too shreds. I have asked for recommendations not advice on whether or not I should use one. Thank you so much. Very Happy Also getting wet in a stream/river/the sea might be fun but just getting drenched....no he does not look like he's having fun to me, maybe your dogs are different Sad

Hi westcountrygirl, if you want a coat for your lab you go for it girlie Smile

I don't personally put them on my dog, but he does have what we call his dressing gown Rolling Eyes for when he's been swimming or got very wet on a walk. It's my preference to help him dry out rather than prevent him from getting wet, I think he smells lovely Embarassed

I bought his coat from Robinsons, google for them they are online, and they do quite a nice selection of doogy coats, most of their models are labs so it give you an idea of fit too. They also accept returns if you don't like it.

Hope that helps xx
