Do your pups let you know they want to go outside yet ? or are you still guessing? .... With the weather being nice ive left our back door open and Bosun has been comin and going as he pleases but today ive had the door closed and have been sneakily watching him he goes to the door sniffs looks round sits down ,... sniffs again looks then gets up circles at which point i pounce open the door and he goes out
If yours whine or anything to go out how did you teach them to do it ??
or does it come with age
i think coal just started barking by himself. he goes and sits by the back door and if we aren't paying attention to him he starts to bark in his high pitch attention barking voice.
we did n't do anything in particular but it sounds like bosun is starting to get the idea by going to sit by the back door

When we first got Blue the door was nearly always open but on the occasions when it was closed he just used to sit in front of it, no barking no nothing so more often than not there was an accident. He soon learned to tap his paw against the door and if we weren't listening he'd come and find us, sit in front of us then walk back to the door until we got the message. Again, not something we did just something he did himself.
so do you think it is somthing he will start to do himself ? ... as when the door was closed and i didnt follow him this afternoon he weed on the mat ....
hoping he will twig to come tell us .. any tips ??
Im having the same thing with my pup Bailey who is 12 weeks, he has not twigged on to let me know he needs to go yet, its not a problem getting him to wee outside on the area we have chose, but it is a problem him letting us know when he needs to go if that makes sense. If i dont take him out very regular (which i do) he will wee inside still.
Yep, same thing for Morris, have had door open and he goes in and out, now door has been shut on occasions and I've been a nervous wreck!.
SAme goes when he comes into the house with us, (hes in the utility leading off kitchen, sees us come and go all day, but evening time comes into 'family' rooms with us which is when he tiddles)
Morris is 12 weeks and I'm watching this thread with interest.
I blame it on the fact that i used to watch him like a hawk and therefore he never really had to try and tell us.
As he got older he would sit by the door and jusr stare like that
I used to wish he would.
Now we take him out at set times every day so he never has to ask, he just waits until we go out. 2 walks and 2 wee breaks
Once he whined in the middle of the night and when we went to see he ran to the door. He had an upset tum. I presume the whine was his way of saying 'help'
apparently winter pups are easier to housetrain as there is a definite line between inside and out in the wonter as the door is always shut - summer babes with open house tend to take longer as the boundaries are blurred - I was told this and though it kind of makes sense to me not a clue if its all tosh or not (I feeel a poll coming on)
We are lucky our back door is straight from our lounge so we never missed a sign with Ruby - when teeny she used to sit on the mat by the back door and look at you which was fab she did that right from the start. When she got older she would whine softly at first then louder and louder (if I was upstairs for example and didnt hear) but tbh she goes at the same time each day really now so I just tend to let her out at those times and she goes. It all just comes with time dont worry
[B]We got our new Pup yesterday and called him Harry We are watching and looking for tail signs. He tends to go round in circles and does a little whimper and squats so you me and the other half quickly running from the sitting room out to the kitchen to the back garden which he does quite well. After he eaten his food we open the back door in the kitchen and let him and he likes to be by yourside and he already has a spot where he needs to go. Everytime he goes out side and does his toilet we reward him and go down and tell him that he his a good boy
