Ive had a few comments over the past few days from people saying Bosun is big! hes 13 weeks old and my OHs mum bought her friends lab round to play who is also male and 13 weeks and he is so tiny compared to Bosun, then ive been told hes a porker! ... so im just wondering if the more experianced amongst you could give me your honest opinion as im starting to get a complex LOL and i sure Bosun will be to
They are all different. Leo was also quite a big boy as a pup, but then being from showlines, i think its quite normal to be a bit more "big built" ... Thats probably the wrong word to use but anyway.... lol
As for being a porker, its hard to tell from pictures. If you can feel his ribs and see a waist when he stands up... He's fine.. If all you can feel around his waist is layers of flab and fab, then yes, he probably needs to loose a little... Much better for his health also. He's lovely though. People say all sorts of crap so i wouldn't read to much into it... I still get people asking me silly questions about Meg such as "Why is she so small?" (She's my BC) I just ignore it.. They come in all shapes and sizes just like us! xx
The daftest Q i got asked last week at puppy class was
"aww what sort of dog is he" im like, umm its a lab, reply was oh yessssssss i thought it was LOL
Ill try to get a standing up photo to add but all he does at the moment is sleep!!!!!!!
He looks fine to me, a nice "roly poly" puppy He is a nice chunky looking puppy, if the other one is working bred that could explain it as yours looks more show bred to me
He looks absolutely fine, normal and exactly how he should look as a 'middleweight hunter' breed at that sort of age. he is not fat, he is not overly tall and he is not overly broad, he just is about right.

To agree with the post above, it's hard to see from the photos. He looks like he has a chunky build. The easiest way to tell is when they are standing, as everything squiges up when they sit and lay down. But when he stands as long as you can feel his ribs and can see a waist then I wouldn't worry. Puppies seem to go through phases as well when one week they look like tubby little dumplings then they suddenly sprout and look like hares.
Puppies are *meant* to be chunky lovely bundles of roly poly kissable furry love!!!
I think he looks wonderful.
I think if he was 2 years old and still had a fat belly like that then I'd be wanting to get some weight off him, but trust me, he'll be chunky this week, and then next week he'll have a "leg growth spurt" and be all legs still with his chunky belly, and then 2 weeks later he'll have a "spine growth spurt" and you'll wonder where on earth his tummy went
My Dylan was just like him. People seem to describe them as "old fashioned stocky type". That describes Dylan down to a T. He's still a very big boy now. Even the vet agrees that he's just a big lab. He looks absolutely gorgeous and I'd like to give him a big cuddle
This is Nudge at 13 weeks
and from the back
He does look as if his tummy is bigger than hers but that can change from day to day it would seem.
As has already been said he should have a waist and you should be able to feel his ribs but not see them.
Also he is a boy and will be bigger than her anyway,
but just so you can see how she is now at just over a year
she is a chunky show lab and is not as tall as my gun dog girl.

When I first went to see Lana she was 5 weeks old and I swear she was bigger than Keira was when I got her. Keira is now tall and slimline whereas I think Lana will be big built and chunky.
