As most of you know, Keira wasn't insured and her hips cost me a small fortune. With Lana joining us in 2 weeks, I will not be making the same mistake Embarassed

Which insurance company is best?

Thank you
Joanne

Ooo I have no idea which is "best"....However I know that you are better off getting a policy which covers the dog for a lifetime illness, rather than a policy which is renewed every year and exclusions put on.

I'm with MoreThan for Mojo and although not the cheapest and I have a £75 excess, they have always paid up promptly. I have had several large claims without any problems with the company and I would use them again. Wink

I know there are happy customers of M&S, Petplan, MoreThan and AXA on here - couldn't say which is best as long as you get lifetime cover.

I think E&L (or anyone they underwrite) were best avoided.

I'm with M&S and can't recommend them enough! My GR has HD. They've paid out for all x-rays, medication and hydrotherapy and they've confirmed they'll pay for his hip replacement too. They also deal directly with our vet/specialist so we're not left out of pocket until they pay out.

You sure about E and L?

I am with Animal Friends insurance and they have never been any trouble for paying out.

After looking around, these, IMHO offer the best cover for the best price, with an excess of just £45.

There are several reasons why I use them, the main one being price AND the fact that they are the ONLY UK pet insurance business to donate 100% of their net profits to animal charities worldwide.

They also do not go off postcode OR breed, everyone pays the same for their dog under 8 or over 8 years as the case may be, and everyone pays the same excess of £45 for a dog under 8 years.

For £19 per month I get £5000 per year vet fees - BUT this is PER condition, which is good, so, theoretically, the dog could have two seperate conditions and I would then get £10,000 per year.

Not only that, but it is also LIFE cover which is very important, so the condition will be covered throughout life unlike many of the same price range which don't allow you to do that.

The policy I have has recently gone up to just over £24 per month, but still represents very good value for what you get.

You don't have to pay this much though, you can get full life cover and vets fees per condition of up to £2,000 per condition per year for as little as £16, and as profits go to helping other animals, for me, this is the best insurance.

These are underwritten by E and L who, themselves, do not offer life cover, but Animal Friends who are a charity do.

They either pay the vets direct, or pay you direct, and my vets allows us one calander month to pay, or will wait for the insurance, so no issues there.

I would be very interested in hearing the reasons to avoid E and L? I have never, ever had any issues with Animal Friends Insurance whatsoever.

E and L themselves have been doing animal life insurance for over 20 years. Or is it that they do not offer life cover?

That's not that cheap Confused

Izzy is with M&S, it cost £202 for this years cover, with up to £7000 per illness, per year for the life of the illness, which includes complimentary treatments and all of our fuel costs to see the specialist and fuel costs to take Izzy to hydro-therapy Cool ...........£50 excess applies

For the most costly treatments, M&S paid the Vets direct, although I'm sure they would have paid it all directly if I'd asked Smile

I was told to avoid E&L by the Champdogs forum - there was thread after thread after thread of people who had claimed and they wouldn't pay out.

I was also warned to avoid E&L - from several different sources including my vet who wouldnt deal direct with them anymore due to lack of payments Confused
