Thanks everyone, it's reassuring to hear we're not alone

Well she's just come back from a day of XRays, poor thing I have never seen her so disorientated and whiney, think the sedation must have looped her head a bit, looking after her lots and she's slowly returning to normal - she's in a big strop with the OH though as she dropped her off!

Bad news though, it is OCD and in both shoulders, she's been referred to the University for keyhole surgery as there is a bit of loose cartilidge or bone in there.
Vet says he's confident once it's been cleared up in both shoulders that she should make a full recovery.
Very upsetting though, only good thing is elbows looked perfect!

One thing is - Thank God for insurance...
£260 today & £150 of injections and PK's over the last 4 weeks and...
£3,000 for the key hole surgery!!!

Oh..........I missed your last post.....................

Sorry to hear it's not good news, but it's better to know now and be able to deal with it...........I'm sure that once the keyhole surgery has been done, things will quickly return to normal

My best advice though is..................please give the best after care you can, i'm sure that this makes a huge difference on how well she will recover, if they suggest rest for a number weeks, please do it, even if that means keeping her in a crate to keep her rested and letting her out for toileting

I had Izzy in a crate for 5 months following surgery for a cruciate tear, without this, she wouldn't have made the recovery she has as quickly as she has, we've even qualified her for CRUFTS, so she must be feeling good Smile

I missed this too, sorry..
And sorry to hear that its not good news and in both shoulders....
I totally agree with Izzy_Molly about the after care, just take it easy and slowly and gradually build up to that first off lead walk!
Hope all goes well, keep us updated x

I came across your post as I was searching the web for information on OCD and joined this site when I saw that your dog is going through the same thing. My lab is 6 months old and I just found out on friday that he has OCD in both front shoulders. He will probabaly need the surgery in about a months time, but I just bought this msm gel that you run on their joints and I was wondering if anyone knew if that was good to do. I've switched his food to a lower protein diet (Eagle duck and oatmeal) and I am giving him a glucosomine supplements, but I want to try this msm stuff cause I know he is feeling a lot of pain. And I know what you mean about it being tough to keep them crated all day, I have a year old lab as well, and my boyfriend and I are also fostering a puppy who is 3 months old, so keeping Royal from playing is tough on him. Let me know how to surgery goes.

Well, took her to the specialist today who had a really good feel around and confirmed she doesn't actually have OCD, but has a potential combination of:

An unpronouncable word which is tendon tear in her shoulder
Pano
Elbow dysplasia

As he's only got one set of Xrays he couldn't give an absolute diagnosis, but there were potential signs of all three but most likely the tendon issue and luckily said that elbow dysplasia was the least likely.

Have to leave it 6 weeks and keep her exercise down to 2x10 minute walks a day then go back for more Xrays, potentially an MRI scan and depending on the results a fibre optic camera in her shoulder joints. Sad

Still, he did make us feel much, much better about the whole thing

OK, well sounds a little better...I think Confused

At least he's not rushing in to do surgery etc. yet....sounds very sensible.

The camera job is an Arthroscopy, Izzy had this done with her knee before major surgery, it allows them to a certain extent, to see what damage there is and usually they can deal with the damage at the same time.

A tendon tear may take quite a while to heal/improve....was any hydrotherapy mentioned?

yeah he mentioned Hydrotherapy but only once he's seen her in 6 weeks time to ascertain whether there's been an improvement or not.

Don't know whether to be happy or sad, but Duggy's still smiling so I guess I'll try that too!
