Hi and welcome to LF, Stanley is gorgeous.
We had a german shepherd x Collie before we got Abbey ( he was 14 and sadly had to be PTS from a hip tumour) and we have found that labs are just so different so much more a persons and loving breed. Have you noticed any differences between the breed yet?

It's difficult to say for sure yet. Actually, some people strongly advised me against getting a Lab, saying they do not compare favourably with German Shepherds in terms of intelligence and also physically, but the people who told me this know nothing about Labradors I think! I do see way too many Labs around who are overweight and plodding and this makes me sad, I'd never allow a dog of mine to become that way. Stanley has been such a fast learner and he just loves being a member of the family - lie down on the floor to watch tele, and he'll be there laying at your side, within seconds Smile German Shepherds possess a certain aloofness I found, the Lab is probably more outgoing and naturally friendly. The Shepherd will play things cooler..
