Ok first question.... are people taking crates for dogs to sleep in or crossing fingers hoping they will be ok in a bed?????
secondly.. people have stakes on there list... do i need one of these to tether coal too or will i be ok without one????
and how is this all going to fit in my car!!!! seriously considering bringing OH's new van! don't want mud and dirty all in my new car and the boot is inconviently taken up by the dog!!!
need to go lie down with a glass of wine.... and don't even ask about the tent!

Sam I'm not taking crates for my girls....just their beds. I have got a tie out stake, but I don't know whether I'll use it...If I do it'll probably only be for short periods of time, perhaps loo visits...although if I'm going to be any longer than that, I think I'll either put the girls in the back of the car...or get someone to mind them for me.
I have no idea how I will fit everything inside the car either, although if I'm really stuck I do have a roof box but I don't really like driving with it on, as you are supposed to stick below 60 MPH according to the instructions.
My tent packs up into a tiny bag.....I can see me battling to get wet muddy tent back in the bag before going home, so I shall take a large bin bag with me just incase...then I can just shove it in there until I get home. Infact it might be a good idea to take several bin bags to put wet muddy stuff in...I don't particularly want mud all over my back seats even if they are not new.
Jack sleeps with us on our blow up beds, I forgot the stake last year and he was fine

LMAO Sam that's exactly why we're not camping... too much crap to carry!!
We're bringing a crate, but we're staying in a hotel, and I'm packing the crate so that DH and I can go out to dinner Sunday night for an hour without worrying that Oz will total the room.
its all suddenly dawning on me and all the lists of items to take on here are daunting me!
hoepfully won't have to bring much food. maybe just one cool box full.... make full use of the catering tent me thinks... oooh maybe 2 cool boxes... one for alcohol which i will need!

and this is why we have a trailer now - and a big one too! We are bringing one large crate for Finlay and Gracie to sleep in but I dont use stakes as last year Millie actually pulled hers out of the ground to get to me across the field I have stell cables which tie to my car which are better for us.
Have tried camping and failed,
I am not a 'happy camper',
more of a 'OMG-HOW-DID THAT-MUD-GET-IN-HERE-AGAIN-WHERE'S-THE-TORCH-WHY-IS-STUFF-WET-I-THOUGH T-THIS-TENT-WAS-SUPPOSED-TO-WATERPROOF-WHERE'S-THE-NEAREST-HOTEL-GRUMP Y-OLD-BAG-CAMPER'

I know how you feel....I've never been camping before...and I'm trying to do it on a budget as I doubt I'll do it again.
I have no intentions of buying a cooker or pots and pans as there is going to be a catering tent......I may bring an electic kettle though just so I can make a cuppa in the morning or a Pot Noodle for lunch.
Last year Baxter just slept curled up on our feet (and loved it!) this year we have a bigger tent and will probably bring his bed for him.
Don't worry, he was only a year old last year and I thought he was going to be a royal pain in a tent, but he (and all the others his age) were really fine and all settled down really well!
We found the stake invaluable last year, even if it's just while you're cooking or eating and don't have your hands free.
