I was told to feed young animals cod liver oil tablets rather than glucosamine... can't remember the exact things but I was led to believe that glucosamine was more for the easing and improvement of arthritis or conditions similar to that than a preventative measure.
I may be completely wrong though... so I'd wait for someone who knows more about it than I do
Hi i wouldn't give if its not needed would you take medication if you didn't need there are some foods with it already in you could give that way if you wanted
No, I would not recommend Cod Liver Oil, a dog can OD on this just as humans can. Safer is the "Fish Body Oils". For my part I feed a small tin of Pilchards in Tomato Sauce once a week (Every Sunday for lunch). Never the Pilchards in Brine because of the high salt content.
I give glucosamine to my two but only because they have injured / arthritic joints. Oil wise, they have a small dash of Olive Oil in one of their meals each day.
Isn't there much salt content in the tomato sauce variety? I was always under the impression that this was just as bad as the brine version.
Thats a good question! Pity you did not ask it earlier! I've just got back from ASDA so I could have checked!
Actually, as brine is simply salt water I have always assumed it was far higher, but next time I'm in ASDA I will check the specific amounts on the tins. These days you never know what is in our food!
