I pick him up in a few hours.

I am scared.

I think (from reading) I need to feed him 5 times a day (8 weeks old). When shouldI feed him?

7:30, 11:30, 3:00, 7:00, 10:00?

I just don't know! Please help!

Oooohh the excitement! Laughing

I would expect him to need four meals a day at that age, but I hope Di or one of the other breeders will be along to tell you.

Has he got a name yet? And what colour is he?

Relax and enjoy him as they grow up so quickly. They aren't pups for long.

Hi, don't panic lol. Speak to the breeder tomorrow when you pick up your pup. They should have a nice detailed pack to give you telling you lots of details about feeding etc, and some food to start off with.

Why dont you make a list of questions to take with you, because they will all go from your mind when you get there.

The majority of 8 wk pups will be on 4 meals a day, changing to 3 meals about 12 weeks, then 2 at 6 months.

You will be fine x

4 times a day is the norm CC, until pup is around 12 weeks old Smile

Don`t know what your feeding him but the breeder should (hopefully) give you some of what they`ve used to wean the pup, along with a guide as to how much to feed, if say the daily amount is 200grams, give pup 50 grams per meal (this is a figure plucked from the air).

If you decide to change to a different food for pup, look at the guidlines on the pack and again split it between 4 meals, keep an eye on him and if he is putting on weight to quickly reduce the amount a little, if he doesn`t appear to be putting weight on, increase it a little.

You will soon get to know whether he`s getting enough but don`t be fooled by those puppy eyes that say, "I`m starving" Laughing

Also if you do change the type of food he eats, do it slowly over some days, mixing a small amount of new with old til he`s on all new, he may get the runs a bit as well cos of the change Smile

feeding routine is really down to you and what is best for you

my lot get fed between 12-1pm then again between 5-6pm (mine are adults not puppys so dont follow my 2 meals routine..lol)

you will both fall into a routine soon dont worry and please dont panic if your pup will not eat fr the first day home as he might be a tad upset..

GOOD LUCK FOR TOMORROW XXXX

He is sooooo cute. Very Happy

Makes me wish I could have another puppy.

Four meals a day would be fine - one early morning, one late morning, one late afternoon and one during the evening.

Helen.

DON'T PANIC!

We fed Roo at 8, 12, 4 and 8 until he was 12 weeks.

He is now being fed at 8, 2 and 8 until he turns 6 months.

It's not life or death if you are a little early or late in feeding - tailor it around the day depending on what time you get up, his naps etc (e.g. Roo had his tea at 9.30 instead of 8 as we were out on a walk). Don't wake him up for food - if he sleeps over a usual feed time just give him it when he wakes up.

Follow the food's feeding instructions to start with and alter accordingly. You are looking for between 0.5 and 1kg of weight gain a week so weigh him when you get home and then every week and make a note. Too little weight gain and add say 50g a day, too much and reduce by 50g.

It's easier than you think and everything will soon become natural. Just enjoy him!

Don't be scared....enjoy him!! Like the others have said, the breeder should have a puppy pack for you with lots of info and advice. Take some empty bottles when you collect hime to fill up with the breeder's water, if it's different water they can get the runs. Gradually mix your water in over 5 days. It is daunting, my Honey is only 8.5 months so all this is still so fresh in my mind. Just have a look on the puppy forum, there is loads of good advice on it and there is also a puppy guide on here under 'Lab info.' Definitely worth a read. Take a blanket to rub over the mother and littermates so he has their smell to comfort him. Have you got a crate? They are very good for helping with toilet training and are a safe place for the pup. He will view it as his little quiet place he can feel secure in when he gets tired/overwhelmed. Honey still loves hers, she has a blanket over the top so its like her little den. Please let us know how you get on and more pics!! This forum is very good and you will always get support if you are feeling worried. I couldn't have done without it. Good luck and I am sooooo jealous!!
