Hope someone out there can help. Any idea's on the best type of brush/comb to groom Toby. He is moulting like mad and as fast as we brush him and then hoover up we are back to square one. It's coming off him in handfulls.

I'm afraid he sounds very typical of a lot of labs at the moment... a shedding blade is a good tool, as is a slicker brush - both will remove a lot of dead hair from the coat.

There was also a post on here a few days ago about something called a "furminator" which is supposed to be very good.. i'll see if i can find it

Very much a topic after my own heart Wink I've just used a shedding blade to take enough off Megan to knit a small dog Shocked Shocked Shocked

However the Furminator looks even better - here's the website:

http://www.furminator.com/

I may take this up if I get TOO frustrated!

Hi Karen

I use a Mikki Undercoat Rake and it is brilliant. All my four are having the worst year ever - and I remember on an earlier post I said that my three red labradors do not have much of a double coat - I retract that statement and they seem to be making me pay for it now Embarassed . I have never seen so much hair Rolling Eyes . Oh well serves me right!

Thank you all, here goes for the internet search, will try and find the mikki undercoat rake to compare, but a think it may just have to be a ferminator.

Thanks again

Karen

Labs have 3 coats to moult.
Top glossey coat, all weather layer then the bottom under layer for warmth. The amount you think it never stops. Were before you might of groomed him every few days. it's now every day till starts getting his new summer coat, then see later in the year it gets really thick ready for winter. All the dogs doing is loosing his last winter coat.

Good Luck.

We use the furminator. It is really good. Only have to brush it over lightly and lots of hair is removed. ((The video that goes with the ad, the women brushes really hard which is so not needed))

Our cat also loves being groomed with the furminator Very Happy

I've got a mikki rake, a sheding blade and I've just bought a furminator.

I'm throwing the first two away Very Happy

The furminator gets all the loose hairs out, I go over Jet a couple of times a week with it, I must say I use it quite gently and it's still very effective, and then a final once over with a brush, and there is noticably less hair around the house. Put it this way Jet is black and my sofas are cream and I have now removed the sofa throws I used to use.

The furminator is brilliant Very Happy
