Now, this may sound rather strange if no one else has had this issue... bear with me. Pepper seems to be drawn to picking up (and eating) either horse or cow dung. When we tell her to leave it, she then thinks it is some funny game. Has anyone else come across this? Could it be harmful? Do I have a strange puppy Think ?

Not strange at all Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately some pups love to eat poo .. some their own, some other dogs or some like your Pepper and my Rolo, like to feast on horse poo Shocked

I try to discourage it the best I can by always having a tasty treat in my pocket which she will hopefully want more than the poo!

Bess is fond of horse poo so I don't think Peppers stange cause that would mean Bess is strange and I know she is perfect Laughing

seriously I don't think it a big issue, I did ask my vet - Bess also likes cat poo Evil or Very Mad if it was dangerous she said it wasn't..

Hopefully one of the more experienced folk on the forum will let us know if our labs are weird

Both mine were brought up on a diet of horse muck and sheep droppings. Razz
My old dog used to love sliding, on her side, through fresh cow muck. Rolling Eyes

It won't do any harm. Very Happy

My lot think they have died and gone to heaven if they have found a field of droppings (sheep, horse, cow, they dont mind which). I have given up saying leave to them coz they just gobble it up quicker if I say anything. Touch wood they have never experienced any ill effects from it, but no doubt someone will come along and tell me the scary effects from letting them do this (not that I encourage it!).

Poo eating is really common and as far as I'm aware, they can't come to much harm, especially from eating the herbivores poo like horses, sheep etc.

Sam's Coal has just discovered this delicacy and spent the majority of our walk this morning racing away from Sam, with great big gobfulls of horse poo, spilling out of the sides of his mouth, it was hysterical!! Laughing

Yes, Hudson munches on it like it's the best thing ever. I try to discourage also, either with a treat or by running past so heis distracted from it. I think of him giving me a lick later on in the day! Euw. Rolling Eyes

Oscar's particular favourite is rabbit droppings, though I'm not entirely sure what he'd do if he came across all varieties at once! He'd almost be beside himself with greed - decisions, decisions!! Laughing

My dogs have grown up with horse, cow and sheep poo. I was always told it was because they were lacking something. Vets these days say that is wrong and it is not harmful... Well it can be. My old lab Tate was seen by my vet many times to have his back end emptied out, I do not mean anal glands either. They can get very constipated, so beware. I also have a pony that when out on exercise used to dive for a dropping left by another horse on the road. But his is another story!!!!
