Very Happy Hi Clyde was on goats milk since he was 8 months after being diagnosed with elbow dysplasia to give him a little extra calcium in his diet drinking a pint a day and didnt do him any harm with the exeption that he now has an allergy to it I would try just a small amount as in some dogs it can give them an upset stomach.
Good Luck
Marie&Clyde Very Happy

Some dogs do have problems with milk but not that many. Every single one of my dogs have had plenty of milk as puppies without ill effects. Just be aware that in a few cases it CAN cause trouble and be prepared to stop if your's is one of the few.

As a little aside, please take the caps lock off Marie. In internet circles it is what you do if you want to shout at someone Embarassed

Regards, John

Hi

I read this thread with interest on the differing opinions and thoughts on how times and views change on what should / shouldn't be fed to dogs.

When we got Hally having not owned a dog for quite some time we read up on diet etc, yet years ago we used to feed our dogs (pups especially) egg and milk every day with no ill effects, and I know many people similarly fed their dogs chocolate without any consequences. Embarassed

I hasten to add that neither trait has been followed this time around, however, it begs the question

Have we become more knowledgeable or have our pets stomachs simply become more sensitive? Shocked

Sue

I must say Sue that we fed exactly the same. In those days there was no "Dog Chocs" and my old boy always has a bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk in the cupboard for a reward for bringing the letters!

I'll ask another question.

Now, with complete foods supplying everything a dog needs we tend to feed just one thing. Is eating the same food day in and day out making the dogs stomach less able to cope with changes?

Don't know the answers but all of my dogs have had variety in their diet, including that cardinal sin, table scraps! And I've never had much trouble with my dogs being sensitive to food.

Regards, John

Hi Sue

I understand what you're saying. Years ago when we had a dog at home he used to love milk and especially loved a cup of tea in his bowl. He also loved chocolate and would always sit near on a Friday night (chocolate night) Laughing All before anyone knew it was poisonous to dogs Crying or Very sad He didn't do so bad - lived till he was 14 and was very healthy Wink

Have to say I would never give it to Lucy, but to be honest, its the same with human diets - so many things we shouldn't have that our grandparents thrived on and mine lived well into their 90's!!

I still say a lot of it is the luck of the draw Shocked

Anna is a connoisseur of tea drinking! And even at 14 weeks old Amy has already decided that tea is for her as well! Laughing
