Denver is our first puppy so theres lots of questions !, so apologies if this is a silly question.

When hes playing theres times when say hes decided he wants to investigate something on the ground with his mouth he just sort of collapses his back legs. No attempt to sit just flops his backside like his back legs have gone.
he also site with his legs to one side, is this a pupp thing that they will grow out of, and sit straight with time.

This forum is a great site for information.

Ian.

Hi

In no way, shape or form am I any kind of expert Smile but if it helps we brought our puppy home yesterday and he does exactly the same thing!

He lies down with his back legs right out like frogs! (his breeder says this is a sign of good hips though so fingers crossed!)

I'm sure someone who is far more knowledgeable than little ol' me will be along to help you out

If it's something to worry about then we're in this together! Smile

My youngest sits with his legs to one side - Bournville is starting to sit slightly straighter now! I assume it's just a puppy thing, or a lazy lab thing! Not sure about the flopping down thing though.

Coal still has floppy sits sometimes. He also used to lay like a frog when he was little

Chester is the only one out of our 3 who sits properly. Roly and Ben sit with their legs to the side and I wouldnt worry about the flopping thing, Ben does this all the time -and on occasions Roly does it too.

Bailey sits like that as well also with 1 leg out and he does the 'frog legs' as well. My old lab Chocky did it as well.

All puppies tend to flop when they find something that takes their interest. It is as if their brains can't cope with doing two things at once (a bit like men Laughing Laughing ) so if they are more interested in a stone, a stick or a flower they forget to stand.

Also all puppies sit with their back legs to one side or as they are working to sitting up straight, sit with their feet in the right place but the rest of their leg tends to flop outwards.

It is nothing to worry about and quite normal.

Hope you enjoy Dexter and look forward to hearing your next question Very Happy

Hilary

labs generally sit and flop down like that anyway. my older lab did the exact same thing and she was almost 5, and my 6 month lab does the exact same thing.. i just think its a lab thing so dont worry.. your pup is just a normal lab.

hope this eases your worry

Bess often lies down with her legs straight out behind her, she has done this since she was tiny...is this OK/normal?
