Hi Pauline

I would imagine that the amount of grams to feed will be written on the back of the food that you feed Austin......all the brands suggest feeding differen amounts.....

Sorry cant be of more help Sad

Hi Pauline, Like Sarah said all brands suggest different amounts.
The brand i feed Leo suggests approx 100g each meal.
However i have saw brands with less and more than this.
I mesure out his food with just normal food scales each meal time.
Have a look on the back of the packet of box and it should give you a rough guidline.
I have always fed Leo the lowest amount, as he gets treats during the day and i dont want to put any extra pressure or strain on his joints while he is so young.
I'm sure there are others with better advice than me though Smile

I'm afraid I'm never that organised. I feed by the handful! I find that the easiest. Amy gets 2.5 hands full for each of her three feeds. I find I'm quite accurate measuring like that and can easily increase or decrease a little if needed.

There is really no reason to be too precise about the amount of food. Let’s face it, we don't weigh our own food. Dogs are opportunistic feeders. In the wild they eat what they find, and if they don’t find then they don’t eat that day. Whilst not saying that we should withhold food one day a week, although that was the old way, neither should we worry about being too accurate about the amount. A little less one day can be balanced by a little more the next. As an example of this. I never like my dogs to have a too heavy meal in the morning of days when they are working. It would increase the risk of bloat. I balance it out in the evening feed when they can relax afterwards.

Regards, John

i feed mine by the mug full..lol..brandy who is 7yrs she gets 1mug full at dinner time then 1 mug full at teatime

rosze on the other hand gets 2mug fulls at dinner and 2 at tea-time as she is 11months

and like johnw says its easier to add more or take away as and when needed

whatever is most comfortable and easier for you is best in my opinion

Scooby is 10 months and I feed him Autaky Adult food.

He currently gets 2 mugs in the morning and 2 in the late afternoon which roughly works out at 400g which is above the recommended amount but he is a growing and active boy but is still slim.

hiya mhairi

i have fed rosze on adult food since she was 7mnths old

changing to adult food slows down the growth rate so they grow steadily and its easier for there growing bones not everyone does it but most lab owners do

someone will go into more detail about it Razz

Yep, Clairiscrazy answered the question. He was growing at an alarming rate so when he got to 6 months I swapped him over to adult. Also he had just been castrated and suddenly had an appetite - he used to just pick at his food beforehand.

Hi all

We're having to really watch Smudge on this too since his 'op'. He is such a gannet now! He never used to be too interested in food but now he whines around feeding time and never seems full!

All the best,
Nic
