Hi and Welcome,

I was lucky enough to stop working full-time and now do part-time so Inca is not on her own for too long. It is VERY hard work with a puppy and it would also be a great shame to miss out on all the 'baby' bits! They do grow up so quickly! Laughing

Sadly our next door neighbours also have a black Lab bitch one month younger than Inca (10 months old) and it is on its own all day from 7.30am to 5.00pm, it has access to a kennel/run and is tied up sometimes on a long line. It is VERY destructive and has tried to dig under the fence to get to Inca and barks a great deal. I feel very sorry for it as I dont think the owners have time to take her for a walk, so as far as I am aware she has never left the garden. In the floods last week myself and another neighbour had to climb over the garden gate to ensure that the dog was OK and it was terrified of us, not normal lab behaviour at all. Embarassed Evil or Very Mad

I am sure that you would be far more responsible than this, as you have clearly looked into all possibilities and imagine how guilty you would feel if something happen to the dog or someone complained about behaviour?

I hope that you and your OH will find a way they are adorable doggies!!!

HI there,
I can only really repeat what everyone else has said but do need to add that rescue dogs and those who have been re homed often need as much work as a puppy to begin with depending on there life before this,
our own re homer has had lots of health problems although minor quite time comsuming and also he does need lots of extra training,
the only upside is that he was house trained, and has some very basic training.
I personally would wait till you are in a position to be home more

Hi

I have a 15 week old black lab and she is fab, but we would never had decided on getting her if we were both at work all day. My partner works from home evenings and i'm out all day at work, so it works out quite well for us. Our puppy takes up a lot of time and demands a lot of attention, I think she would become quite depressed and destructive if left alone all day.
The best advice I can give is don't get any dog unless you have the time for it, they are great campanions and the best thing you can give them in return is company.

I hope one day you'll have the time for your chocolate lab (we've been talking about it for 5 years before we got ours!!).

Claire

Hi, can I just say that most rescues unfortunately will not home a dog with you because you work full time. A good breeder would not either so i know it rather leaves you nowhere but really until your circumstances change a dog, of any breed, is just not the pet for you unfortunately.

I appreciate you said about the dog going to your parents most days, but if they were ill, or on holiday or if the dogs DID NOT get along, and a GSD can be a pretty daunting task to socialise to a newcomer rescue, especially remember, rescues can be straightforward, OR they can have issues hence being rehomed, and need a lot of EXTRA work and care not LESS than a puppy.

I really think waiting, even if it is a few years sadly is your only option to being half way fair to the dog or puppy.

Best
Di
