After a very disappointing weekend two weeks ago looking for a stud dog for Tia and being told she could possibly be too small for breeding, took the "bull by the horns" and went down to look at another dog. Well what can I say, Di you are a star! Deeds is a gorgeous dog, (I see what she means by Mr Laidback!)I felt totally at ease and the main thing was he would be perfect for Tia, size, temperament and pedigree wise, yes he is bigger, of course, but Di assured me that Tia would be absolutely fine and she saw no problem. And after reading about lovely Poppys pups this week, I am getting very excited. Tia will hopefully have her next season by November, so will be back to Sussex then.
Whilst sometimes being quiet is the way to go I rarely do that
Cynics could of course say - well if an experienced breeder said that Tia was too small for breeding then why would Di say otherwise? Basically because, as mentioned above, we all have a different outlook and different ideals when breeding. I have the ultimate respect for the breeder who said that Tia was small. She IS a petite little package, but show competition puppies are not what is desired here, although as mentioned it would be extremely nice to produce some as Tia's pedigree is, infact delightful! It is what one is always AIMING for with a show line dog, even if the pups are to go as pets or workers (which Tia's will) we may be one generation off showring quality - but upgrading her with a moderate size dog would be the way to achieve that.
bearing in mind actually, I mix in a lot of working circles and have quite a number of working line girls through here over the years, so Tia doesn't look remotely slight compared to some well bred FT ladies However a kennel which doesn't have FT girls come might think she lacks a little size and substance. So again, its something that changes ones perception.
Its never a case of grabbing the money for no reason, nor is it a case of thinking one knows better than someone else - its all just laying things against each other and seeing where they sit with you and your likes and dislikes. Tia is a delightful girl!

Our Jay's mum, Baloo was a little lightweight, so my stepson chose a match very carefully for her. When we went along a while ago to see Jay's dad in W. Sussex and the other dogs I personally would have gone for a completely different dog, he was big and chunky had a wonderful head. But as Baloo is quite fine and on the short side, she would not have been suited to him. But since Baloo had the litter of pups she has matured into quite a nice shape and size. Jay has actually taken the size and shape of her grandfather, Balloo's father, who is a strapping big working Lab.
There were only 4 pups in Jays litter. But 4 huge pups.
Thanks to everyone for their replies. Di, I hope you dont mind singing your praises but you have given me confidence to go ahead and breed from Tia and to be honest Deeds just fits the bill (and it would be good to put his great qualities into Tia's pups). Not to mention the fact that I would have your support as I am a first-time breeder which is very important. (pressure, pressure ) I hope I dont sound too naive but it really is down to that. And Sarah - cousins - how cute!
