Can a puppy be registered at later date.
I was looking through the classified ads today and found three adverts that said, puppy isnt registered but can be registered at later date, will provide all details..
can a owner register the puppy after buying it ? i thought only the breeder could do that ? is that possible ?
Here is the information provided by the Kennel Club regarding litter regisration,
There doesn't seem to be much info on Late Registrations but it can be done, by the Breeder I would imagine, at the higher cost of £60 and I think there is an age limit for which the pup can be registered in........
No.of Labs: 1
Lab Names: Marley (Coco Caramel Boy) DOB 11.04.07 Indi (Newf) DOB 28.6.07 Always remembering Charlie who died 12.06.07 run free my baby x
so its a con then when the breeders say that..
before i got bailey, i phoned a breeder in cardiff selling yellow lab pups and they told me they arent registered but i can register the pup and theyll give me the info ..
and before that two other breeeders who said the same thing..
*lol* maybe they just bred pets and havent a clue what they're talking about..
I have to say I have read on numerous Lab puppy ads recently things like "pups not KC registered but all details will be provided for you to register at a later date if you wish" and much more worrying in my opinion "parents are KC registered but this litter will not be registered" - hmmmm, well why not I ask, maybe because the bitches have been bred from time after time again?
Unfortunately Joanne, where we live there are a LOT of puppy farmers and other such unscrupulous individuals who are selling puppies just for the money (only yesterday I saw an advert in our local pet shop - yellow lab pups for £200 each).
Joanne, I can assure you that they have not a clue what they are talking about.
Certainly if you paid them a bit extra they might register the puppy FOR you, it is not mandatory to register a WHOLE litter if you are the sort of shoddy breeder who will take an extra £100 off folks to register a puppy (which costs £12 at the kennel club) so it is sold 'with papers' as they call it....
But owners cannot register a puppy for the first time. If it is ALREADY registered by the breeder they can put it into their name at the kennel club but only if it was already registered there by the breeder.

Well b****r me. I've just discovered, after reading the KC link, that my pride and joy was never registered with KC. I have no blue form or any other colour KC details for that matter. I have never really gone into it. I know her mother was hip scored but have no details of dad's score. Well I'm blowed. Had her for 14 years only to find my baby has no status
AM I BOVVERED....am I 'eck as like.
Yeah, it must be a Welsh thing, there are sooo many pups advertised at cheap prices and puppy farms so to speak.. your right about that.
I spoke to several breeders before I got bailey who knew nothing about the puppy or the parents, they just said they didnt know coz the mother is a pet and the father lives down the road *lol*
Whats the point in doing that, surely they dont make much money from it, then again I guess if they dont do any health checks and they just sell the pups as is then maybe they do,...
Unfortunately, some people are sadly under the illusion that if a dog is not KC registered then it is no good/not worth having as a pet.
You can count me in that number. As far as I'm concerned, if the pup is not registered then I would have to ask why? A registered pup could be sold for well over £100 more than an unregistered dog so it is financially silly not to register. Unless of course the breeder could not register for some reason. Reasons could be, bred too young, bred too many litters, bred too old, bitch endorsed "Not for breeding", does not know the stud dog, stud dog not registered or of course the bitch not registered.
No, sorry, even as a pet I would want to know my pup is who the breeder says it is. If the pups are not registered there must be a reason. Yes I know registration is no guarantee, but it's the nearest thing we have.
