The only thing I would say about Fried Chicken is the High Fat and salt content which of course is bad for dogs as well as for us. All in moderation and as a treat only i would suggest

When Pol got a really runny nose early on in the Summer (yes I know, what Summer?) I was advised to give her a couple of Garlic capsules with her food as it was a mild form of hay fever. It did the trick though.
I suppose as with most things it is if it is an excessively large ammount it will cause harm.
She has had the odd grape and if something falls on the floor when food is being prepared I'm not as fast as my little speeding bullet at getting to it first and she gobbles it down.

Does anyone know how harmful eating Yew berries would be? I know that Yew is poisonous to horses etc. Neighbour has a huge tree right on the boundary, hangs well over our fence but it's protected. I get tons of berries falling into my garden. Haven't had Bo long enough to know whether he'll pick them up or not but guessing he would. I am also guessing answer would be yes but would be good to know what guantity just in case. Thanks.

Firstly Garlic..

Garlic an Onions for us are great as they thin the blood and help with high blood pressure, now this is where it is dangerous for dogs, in high quantities such as a bulb of garlic or daily consumption (not capsules as very little garlic in them) it causes the thining of the blood cell walls and breaks them down, causing anaemia.

Yew berries...the fleshy bit was and is used as an abortative by herbalists also to treat epilepsy and constipation, the seed inside though is deadly!

Article taken from website

The red fleshy part of the fruit is quite edible and are eagerly eaten by many birds, such as fieldfares, thrushes, blackbirds and redwings. The hard seeds pass through them without harm and are distributed in their droppings. Country children have often not been able to resist the temptation to eat the sweet attractive looking flesh, but such familiarity with the tree may have its real dangers, as they might chew the seeds in the arils, or even be tempted to chew the green shoots.
All parts of the tree, except for the flesh of the arils are very poisonous.
"They contain the highly poisonous alkaloid taxin, a small amount of auxiliary alkaloids and the glycoside taxicatin. The needles contain the greatest concentration of taxin in the winter (2 percent) and the least concentration in the summer (0.5 percent). The seeds contain approximately 1 percent. The decoction from just 50 - 100 gm of needles or a mere 30 'berries' is fatal for an adult."
"The action of the poison is extremely rapid because taxin is quickly absorbed in the digestive system. It is a very poisonous cardiovascular toxic substance and causes vomiting and abdominal pains, painful diarrhoea, dilated pupils, pallor, collapse, cramps, unconsciousness, and death due to cardiac arrest and respiratory failure often within an hour following ingestion. Horses are the most susceptible of all animals and may die within several minutes of feeding on the young shoots. The literature states that 100 - 200 gm of the needles is a fatal dose for a horse. Pigs are also susceptible, but a five-fold amount is required to poison cattle." (from F. Starư "Poisonous Plants" Magna Books, 1990).

Thank you so much for that Natalie. I am going to print that info off to show the council guy who I have to approach to get the neighbours to trim the tree back. Confused
