Cant believe I didn't see this topic before Surprised
My vet advised me to put garlic cloves or paste in Bea's food to put her off eating her own faeces??? "it didn't work by the way"
I did know of most of the danger foods but surprised to see broccoli on the list as well Surprised
thanks x

all mine eat choccy - not a lot just the odd bit. They each have a garlic capsule every day. They all eat nuts (hazels and wall nuts from the garden) they all eat fruit, apples by the tonne, cherries by the thousand, pears, complete with stones pips etc, and anything else that grows in the garden, including my tomato's, cucumbers, strawberries. As a treat they have raw tatties, carrots, bits of onion and other veg when I am cooking. Dan likes an ocasional coffee (esp with choccy in!) and Cassy likes red wine & whiskey! (makes Lola sneeze)
We once had a GSD who stole 1/2lb of choccy brazils, 7 choccy Santas, a bar of fruit & nut (large) and a toblerone (large) He wasnt sick, didnt have an upset tum, just left us choccy less for xmas day - btw, the Santas were on the tree and he managed to pick each one off, peel the silver paper off and leave it.........the tree was still standing and the choccies were wedged in behind it........
Oh, I nearly forgot, they each have a raw egg every day, fresh from the chooks - Danny has the 3 shells as well........

haven't re-read the whole thread but as it's on the increase in shops thought i'd mention - be extra careful if as a dieter you buy sugar alternatives like artifical sweetners, this includes sugar free gum. Xylitol is really, really harmful to dogs and just a tiny amount spilled on the floor could cause real harm.

That's kind of like my family's story of how my nana smoked woodbines every day and lived to 95. It's impressive but not advisable. They use that little anecdote to illustrate that lung cancer is 'bad luck' rather than caused by smoking so they can carry on puffing away.

Just to balance it out, about 30 years ago we had a lab who ate the chocolates off the Christmas tree in the night, then had diarrhea all over the tv cables and ended up very poorly. We never put chox on a tree ever again.

And very sadly I know of an adult Labrador who died after raiding some chocolate, so I agree, it's not worth the risk when you know of the risk Sad

That's very true there are always ones that are fine but it doesn't mean its a good idea for the majority, better safe than sorry with our precious four legged friends I reckon. Smile

Feeding pets food that we enjoy is not only wrong, it can also be fatal. There are some foodstuffs that humans relish which cause illness and death if eaten by pets.Chocolate, macadamia nuts and onions are good examples. Each of these foods contains chemicals which rarely cause problems for dogs, these same chemicals can be deadly. Onions and garlic are other dangerous food ingredients that cause sickness in dogs, cats and also livestock. Onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient thiosulphate. Onions are more of a danger.Pets affected by onion toxicity will develop haemolytic anaemia, where the pet’s red blood cells burst while circulating in its body.

Brocolli?

Shocked by that. Was told (can't remember by whom) that a brocolli stalk was good for the pups to chew on.

What sort of quantities are we talking here?
