You know, not a GT kind of walk where we amble from one side of the park to the other watching the dogs make idiots of themselves.
But a proper walk where you bring water bottles and need a map and you climb over stiles and all that good stuff?

One of the reasons I wanted us to get a dog in the first place was to encourage my hubby into walking with me in the country. Proper walks. Obviously I don't want to jump straight into an 8 hour hike on Ozzie's 1st birthday, but I'd like to start doing the odd 1-1.5 hour walk, working that up to 2-3 hours over the next 6 months or so.

I've got so many walking books it's not funny, so we won't be short of ideas, but I'd love to know if anyone else wants to come?

I'll do my best to pick places without livestock to begin with, but it would be good if your dog was okay with being around animals. Also you'd probably want a dog around 1 year old minimum.

Don't get me wrong though, they won't be hard walks to begin with, I'm not exactly a skinny minnie health fanatic so don't think I'm gonna drag you up Scafell Pike on Walk #1 Smile Maybe in a year or two!!

Looking to have the first one in late July or August, and I'd like to make it a monthly thing and go somewhere different each month.
I'm willing to travel up to 1.5 hours from home (Wigan) so Yorkshire/Derbyshire/Greater Manchester/Lakes District/Cheshire are all possibilities.

Any takers??? Post if you're interested and we can then work on a location and date if you like?

Cheers

Ness

Sounds good to me, I'm about 1 hr from wigan but am happy to travel to lakes etc.
Once a month is ideal, I love a good walk although I would have to leave the map reading to you it's not my greatest strength.

Yay! A few takers already, good news! Will wait a few more days to see if we have any more willing volunteers.

MM - depending on how our two get on, maybe we can carpool (e.g. if you can get to me - very easy from Manc on the train - then I'll pick you up from Wigan and you can come in my car). It'd be easier to work out that finding walks near public transport.

All you lot down south - don't think you're gonna get away that easy... I have free rail travel all over the country, so I could come knocking on your door wanting a guided tour in your neighbourhood!! Smile

Any other victims for "Proper" walks??

Ness
