We still use Ozzie's crate, and we made a decision that we would continue to use his crate until such time as we feel he's not destructive any more. And the biggest factor for deciding this we guessed would be when he stops destroying his beds.

We used to just have vetbed in his crate when he was tiny, and he chewed it a little but not much. Now he's bigger we've progressed to big fluffy pillow-type beds. But he keeps eating them! He bites holes in the material and then rips out all the stuffing and strews it all over the joint.

It's getting expensive and tiring and I really want to start thinking about de-crating him but how can we when he's destructive?

Does anyone else's lab shred their pillow beds? Anyone got any ideas of how we can stop it???

Cheers

Ness

Gracie did this - we went through so many beds so in the end just got Vetbed. Best thing we did as she hasn't touched those and Finlay has one in his crate too. Washes brilliantly too - I have then in the car now, fab bed it is Very Happy

Hi Ness,

Digger has just turned 8 months and is still crated at night-well till about 4 or 5am(on a good day!! Evil or Very Mad ) when he insists he is let out and given freedom and he will quite happily lie in the hall for an hour or so-presuming of course the cats don't rile him up (this happens frequently!!)

He hasn't eaten any beds (YET!) but does trail his small puppy bed all over the place. I think it's like a security blanket to him. I'm hoping to de-crate him at some point but just don't quite trust him 100%

Hope someone gives you some advice on stopping Ozzie shredding his beds.

Fiona

I should have said in my last post that Digger as a waterproof bed in his crate. It appears to be quite tough and came with two removable cotton covers which may work for you if it gives Ozzie two strong layers to try and get through!

Ahhhh well the general consensus is to go back to vetbed so I think we might do that. Maybe have one nice fluffy pillow bed for the lounge room (when we're home with him he can have that) and just vetbed in the kitchen when we're out.

Thanks gals!

Hi

Abbey used to chew her beds too, its only been about the past 6 months where she has stopped doing it ( off i rush to touch wood !!!!! ) Maybe Ozzie will grow out of it as he gets older, id go back to vetbed and then in a few months maybe try again with a nice pillow type bed .
