Cheers John,
So as the CH was the 5th generation do you reckon its safe to say that dog was prolly a show champ then rather than an overall one ??
I am guessing this is also one of the reasons why Alfies dad was so big, as he was very very stocky lad,, from the show lines,, as opposed to from the field lines where they are a bit smaller ?????
So completely hyperthetically speaking, would it be a good idea if i ever wanted to breed him so breed some ft into his line ??
other wise i am guessing the 2 lines are going to move further and further apart. and we will end up with massive show dogs and much smaller ft dogs.
again all very much for info sake, Alf's only 4 months old, lol so dont worry, i'm not going to run out there and get him a mrs.

I am sure you will find that Master Mariner was a full champion. Certainly his sire, Lindall Mastercraft was a show champion. But it is conceivable that son MIGHT have been made up before father and the rules changed in the mean time.
Actually, many of the smaller working Labradors are an illusion. My Anna is nearly 3 inches over breed standard!!! And Amy is well up to standard as are a large proportion. But the fact that many tend to be rather slight in build gives them the appearance of being small.
Yes, a big dog can be at a disadvantage in the field. I have had a Pheasant tucked up in the middle of a double hedge which was so dense that she was physically too big to get to it. I had to get one of the spaniel me to get it out. But the, Anna can bring me the largest of Canada Geese with no problem! Horses for courses.
Regards, John
