I just wanted to ask about treatment for lungworm please in light of Molly and other labs on LF in the last few months that have had suspected lungworm.

Am I right in thinking 1 single dose of advocate is sufficient as a treatment?

Our vets give milbemax as a preventative/management wormer
My understanding is that milbemax in a 1 x 3monthly dose would not treat lungworm but would reduce the larvae Confused It is not licensed like advocate but is prescribed by vets in higher doses on a treatment plan as is panacur for treatment.

I'm thinking it might be prudent for me to alternate now with advocate to be safe as advocate does TREAT rather than prevent, right? Confused

Molly has always had milemax and well u have read my posts on that. Yes Adovcate and panacur treat and kill lungworms. Mollys says 1 sachet over 7 days to treat any existing worms.Speak to ur vet if u have any concerns-u dont need an appointment just give them a call, mollys panacur cost 16.00 including vat but u can get it cheaper eslewhere-- if i had known i would have treated alot earlier and kept it up as precaution, then molly wouldnt be in the state she is now.

It is my understanding (and reading the literature), Advocate treats but does not prevent lung worm. However, my understanding is that it takes time to develop and can be a chronic condition. But the Advocate blurb seems to indicate it is 100% effective at killing off lung worm between 30-45 days.

George is on it as his goddog had lungworm. He's ok, but we've got loads of slugs and snails.

Here's the blurb from Bayer:

Thanks I read the bayer info as I'd already found it online but I was all confused as obviously they recommend you treat every month.

I don't want to switch to advocate for every month, so are you confirming that a one off dosage would treat lungworm *if* they had it in their system?

I'm not a vet, but that is my understanding.
