Hi

Got a phone call from the vets today all of Abby's blood tests have come back normal except her urea is a little high. Normal is between 2.6 and 6.7 and hers is 8.7 at the moment. I need to get a wee sample from her - please can anyone tell me the best way to collect it from her Confused

Would not drinking enough cause this, it's really weird cos towards the end of last week she doesn't seem to be drinking from her water bowl as much. I've not washed it out any differently to normal but a couple of times over the weekend she was drinking out of puddles as soon as she got out of the car to go on the walk as though she was thirsty before she set off. she has been drinking out of the watering can in the garden too. Its got me really puzzled.

Any ideas gratefully received
thanks

Sal n Abby

I get Boos samples by following her round the garden with a shallow Tupperware box ready to pop under her bits when she goes.

Good luck Wink

To collect a urine sample there are a couple of methods I've used.....You can either sneak up behind them as soon as they squat and slide a clean baking tray underneath, then pour the urine into a clean bottle, Or you can use some clean cotton wool to soak up that first big wee of the day from the lawn (you have to be quick before it soaks in), Or you can even slide the cotton wool directly underneath the dog as she is urinating, then squeeze out into a clean bottle. Wink

I really don't know whether reduce fluid intake would cause such a high Urea count.

Your lucky you have a bitch Very Happy , as Sarah says foller her about with a shallow dish and slide it under her when she squats, it may put her off to begin with but she`ll give in when she really needs to go Smile

No idea why she shouldn`t want to be drinking from her bowl as much as usual, I`ve found lately that my two have decided they want their bowl refilled with fresh water when they get in, even if it was just done before they went out Rolling Eyes , same with my friends dog, I changed his once after he`d been out and now he waits for it to be done when we get back Shocked

I used a makeshift collector with a milk carton, worked a treat too!! I used a 2 pint carton cos the 'tray' part is longer!! lol cut along the dotted lines and pop it under her when she goes!
Easily poured into container, no mess, but leave the milk carton lid on!

(piccy is a 4 pint, with milk in cos its all I had to show you lol)

Many thanks everyone. He wants it as soon as possible so am going to try for the first one of the day! No cotton wool in so it will be the sliding underneath method lol. I like the idea of the milk carton - I'm such a rubbish pourer I'm bound to spill it otherwise Embarassed

That cut down milk carton worked a treat!

The Urine sample was normal and all the other kidney related blood results fine. Vet thinks the urea could just be a blip from something she had eaten and that she is just going to be a skinny dog. Big relief Laughing
