I emailed everyone who I was interested in who had an email address and then rang everyone else. Everyone I emailed got back to me with lovely things and responded to my queries. I then spoke to a few breeders, who I had emailed, on the phone as this is a good way to get to know them.
None of them seemed bothered about emailing them first but most had said that they would have to speak over the phone before agreeing to meet...
I emailed my breeder as a first contact, telling her a little about me, and asking a few questions and informing her that I would be calling her that evening, just to give a little background and warning .

Hi, most people have emailed us, telling us about themselves, dogs they have/had, (some quite extensively!!!)and a bit about what type of dog they are looking for, what they want it for etc .The ones that have decided to take a pup have spoken on the phone and 1 couple came down to meet us and Kelly (pups mum).
Ang, Just wondering - will you insist on meeting them before they come to collect their puppies at the 4 weeks or so mark?? Or Are you a tough cookie who can happily turn them away if you don't like them on the day they have come to pick the puppy up?

As a novice, definitely a phone call - and have already met several of the prospective puppy owners - and spent many hours talking on the phone to the others - including, as you know Nic, one complete family to visit (and the pups are not here yet )
Or Are you a tough cookie who can happily turn them away if you don't like them on the day they have come to pick the puppy up?

So which one are you Di?????
Personally not having met Baxter's breeder (OH did) so can only go on my experience with Darcie's breeder It has been a very nice experience and a 'certain someone' has put up with the pain namely me harrassing her and asking to come visit and questions.............Thanks Di It is so important to be able to feel that you can ring and ask questions no matter how silly and knowing they have been asked that same question so many times! Also to know they are there at the end of the phone for the rest of your pups life

Good question!! ....we have said to the people who have their names down for a pup that that they can come down to see them if they wish at anytime, we will be picking our pup (a bitch) around 6 weeks and obviously those who can, can come and choose their pup then. One gentleman has stipulated that he wants the smallest bitch in the litter (he is third on the list). One couple has been down already to meet Kelly and they had a sneaky peek at the pups too. I would prefer to meet owners before they come to collect but realise this is not always possible.
I hope if people are willing to pay the cost of a pup and take one on, the pup should be going to a good home. I dont suppose you can take to everyone in life but i think if someone i really didnt take to came down or i had reservations about why they wanted one of our pups......id make OH tell them no and id go hide somewhere! LOL!!!
No seriously.....I would like to think id be strong enough to say no to someone but it would be soooooo hard...esp in person
Hopefully all the new owners will be lovely, the ones i met so far have been and 3 so far are going to trialing/working homes which is our priority. Although no one seems very interested in the dogs for some reason???
