We weigh Dibley every Sunday morning Embarassed

This morning, at 22 weeks he weighs 12.1kgs.

He is of working stock and is in great shape, so I have no concerns, but I did just wonder how this compares to other labs.

It is very difficult to compare weights of labs because they come in so many different shapes and sizes Very Happy so you are not comparing like with like.

From memory, Solo was around the weight Dibley is at 12 weeks Very Happy and Clover at 25 weeks was nearly 26 Kg and according to her breeder, didn;t carry enough weight for the ring Confused

I kept Hally at a consistent 28 / 29Kg as her adult weight, but she got a little porky when I starting working from home all the time - getting weight off her to mate her, I realised she actually looked better at 31kg Confused

Just to throw something entirely different in the mix, just weighted my 6 and a half week old litter and:

Largest Male: 6.2kg
Smallest female: 5.4kg

These are entirely show line bred puppies but are not from the heavier of heaviest show lines by any means.

Truly was 10.6 at the vets a week on wednesday. Have just weighed myself arrgh!) then weighed myself carrying her (in lbs) and converted it to kg, and it said

11.8kg, she is 11 weeks.

So she has gained just over a kg in a week. Is that a normal weight gain?

I make her just over 13'' to her shoulder if Im doing it right.

as already been said all labs come in different shapes and sizes so weight will varie a lot..

personally i go by my lab i dont compare as long as your pup is gaining weight and not loosing it (unless on a diet..lol) then i wouldnt worry about it...

if your vet is happy with his weight then great but as he grows and say you stop weighing him as often you will then see for yourself if your dog is over weight or under weight...

working stock they more on the lean side?

i know show dogs are chunky or big boned..lol.. my late tessa was a right chunky lab she was from show stock her mum and sister nearly knocked me over when i went to ger her...lol.. bears they were.lol.

brandy i would say she is as di i think once said pet bred she did have a few working and show dogs in her line but not many so her size is in the middle

rosze im kickingmyself as i cant find her family history but if i remeber right mostly working lines so she is a lot taller and leaner than brandy but funnily enough weighs heavier than brandy..lol

Thanks for all the replies. It is really interesting.

Wow Di, just shows the difference between working and show labs, Dibley didn't reach 5.4kg until he was 9 weeks and he was about the second biggest in his litter.

I am really sad that I haven't measured his height but I'm not sure I would have ever got him to be still enough.

Like Truly, Dibley has put on a kilo in a week a few times but I also remember posting on here concerned that he wasn't putting any weight on when I changed his food to Burns, that has certainly changed now.

Just like humans, shows how diverse our labs are.

My lab Bailey is nearly 9 months old and weighs 34 kilos, his 2 sisters are 32 kilos, 1 brother is 37 kilos and the other 7 brothers are between 33 and 37 kilos. Mum@ 7 stone and Dad is over 8 stone. I was worried Bailey was getting too big until i spoke to his breeder and found out how much his siblings weighed.

Coal weighed roughly 18-20kg at 22 weeks

he's now ten months and is about 28-30 kg - he won't sit still! he eyes up the scales with suspicion!
